Apartment and other accommodations are paid for. I'm assuming I'll only be spending the rest on groceries (I like to cook more than eat out) other small expenses. How much do you believe I'll be able to put into savings a month if I am living frugally?

Dear Wandering Teacher, for sure you can make it on RMB 6,000 per month somewhat comfortably in Zibo, Shandong, but my God, that's not exactly a place that should be on the top of anyone's go-to list. Shandong (with the exception of Qingdao) is truly one of China's more "rustic" provinces, for lack of a better word, to be exceptionally polite, and if you like OVERLY frank people, who will have never, ever seen a foreigner before, extremely insular folks, if you will like being pointed at and stared at and commented upon at every occasion when you are out publicly, then this is 100% the place for you.
Zibo is a rather spread-out conglomeration / amalgamation of various cities. The winters there are miserable, just miserable, and it is home to the largest concentration of labor camps, prisons, re-education facilities in the nation.
Avoid it if possible. Otherwise, you will need a will of steel to survive.

Wow I had no idea. I tried doing a Google search to see what I could come up with but nothing I found highlighted what you shared with me. Thank God for this website. The owner of the school there basically loved me after my interview and is very excited for me to come, but with this new revelation, I'm gonna have to pass. Do you know anything about Fuzhou?

my school needs a teacher now in rizhou, apartment at the beach, you can get accomodation and 8000, teaching ielts to high school kids, rizhou is the last southern city in shandong along the coast.
Belle's pretty right, but Zibo would be a better option than Jinan. Probably better than anywhere aside from Qingdao.
Gotta share this.... there's a link between Zibo and Qingdao...what could it be, I hear you ask.
Well, one night a certain wealthy businesswoman from Zibo decided to do her best to seduce her son's English teacher right on the beach, where there was more than the odd person about to enjoy the show.
Forget Zibo matey, get a job in Qingdao. At least there you'll see the sea and some reasonably blue blue sky. Go to Lennons to sort yourself some sailing too.
She succeeded too.
I see you've asked about a couple places and salary. 6000 rmb is $1000. So, if you have no other expenses, you may find it difficult to spend that here in China. What matters is your lifestyle. If you stay out of the bars, you should be able to save 4000 rmb, given that you say you like to cook at home. There are other considerations(travel, electronics, etc) but in general, you'll be fine.
Dear Wandering Teacher,
If you have a chance to have a job in FUZHOU, Fujian, then 1,000% go for it. The climate is really among the best in China : the summers are very long, very hot and very humid -- the city is exceptionally verdant. The winters are really very mild and by most Western standards are probably not winters at all. I was able to go about Fuzhou in a short-sleeved blouse and light skirt in the middle of January.
Fuzhou good is really great. It's not heavy, heavy, heavy oil-based like other places in China. The idea behind Fuzhou is not to mask or pour heavy sauces on the items used in the particular plate but rather to enhance the taste of each item used.
Fuzhou is great and it's not small by any means. Xiamen on the coast is also a real jewel of a city.
It is everything that Guangzhou once was but no longer is. The people are hospitable but still they are very savvy business-people. Bargain hard and shop well.
If you have a chance to have a job in Fuzhou, don't hesitate.
I might see if I can get the owner to increase the salary. The reason I considered this is because out of the MANY (at least 15) recruiters or school owners that I have spoken with...this is the first one that I felt actually comfortable talking to and working with. We have discussed things outside of teaching, for instance the world, education, human rights, foods, etc., and I could really see myself not only working with them, but also developing a profound friendship. You know when you meet someone and you just feel a connection that is effortless and familiar? That's how I feel when we speak. In all honesty, I rather be super comfortable with an employer that I am earning less money with, than super uncomfortable with an employer that I am earning more money with. I am not coming to teach in China just for money, my whole reasoning behind leaving my life in Los Angeles is to meet profound individuals, learn from the world, and allow myself to be changed positively by the teachings, actions, and experiences of individuals who I would have otherwise never met.

I would strongly recommend another country if this is the experience you are seeking.
