Baby rabbit
Baby is a noun:a very young animal
Rabbit is a noun as well.
I usually think you can not use a noun to describle another noun.So why is that happening?Any native English speaker can help tell me?
The word 'baby' can be an adjective as well as a noun
"her baby" - noun - One’s particular responsibility or concern
"her baby girl" - adjective - Comparatively small or immature of its kind
"Baby" can also be used as an verb
"baby rabbit"
adjective + noun
Lord_hanson:
Why has this comment been voted down. It answers the question perfectly. Vicky Sorrel gave you an answer to your question why have you voted her down.
hunny797:
to me it looks like someone is enjoying down voting every post today..
and others just follow to down vote whenever they see a red maple leaf before actually reading the answer...
xunliang:
Now it answers it correctly after I corrected her. That's why it got downvoted.
"A baby" is still a noun, Sorrel, not an adjective. You can call someone a baby for being childish or whatever, but it's still a noun. Babyish would be the adjective form of baby.
The only time baby is an adjective is when it appears directly before another noun, such as baby rabbit, baby food etc.
sorrel:
in this context, 'baby' is an adjective
it describes the age/size if the rabbit
another example sentence using 'baby' as an adjective
- "Looking for a used grand or baby grand piano?"
"i want baby carrots"
xunliang:
Those two examples are correct. Your above statement "she is a baby" is a noun.
philbravery:
ok how about " he had to baby the the damaged plane back to the airport"
