Q: Another day in China
I use my companies credit card for booking tickets and travel. Mostly on Ctrip. Have for years. Tried to book a hotel for this weekend. Went like this.
Lady: Ok sir we have your reservation and credit card information , what is the ID number for the cardholder?
Me: Why? You can see ive booked literally hundreds of rooms here right? You never asked before, why now?
Lady: ....... Sir do you have the ID number of the card holder, We cannot book and charge your card without the ID number?
Me: Fuck, Its a company card, Ill go and find it and call you back.
Lady: Sir if you call us back we will lose your reservation and need to start again. I am going to book your room for " Pay at hotel" so when you call us back then we have your information and you can change to "prepay" and give us the ID number.
Me: OK.....
Lady: Sir I need to remind you, The booking has now been made. If you do not call us back or do not show up for the hotel then we will need to charge your credit card for the whole 2 nights of the booking.
Me: Wait. If I dont show up , and I dont give you My ID number then your going to charge my card? You just said you cant charge my card without the ID number? Then why cant you charge my card right now?
Lady: Thank you for calling C trip and have a nice day!

Chinese really hate questions that make them think, don't they?
I am sure she is just following procedure unquestionable like she did with her CCP education. China is a thinking man's worst nightmare!
For hotel booking, just use Booking.com.
For flights within Mainland, get service from a local travel agency. If under company name you can get monthly billings and additional 2% off Ctrip prices.If you are in Dongguan I can pass you the contact info of the one I'm using.
I can actually shed some light on the subject, 5 of my wife's friends are high level banking staff in PingAn and they said all banks are tightening security policies due to fraud and a handful of other reasons, this would include tightening credit card transactions... Even I've noticed on our online accounts required new stuff.. It's make us go google, wait! Oh yeah google doesn't work"for now"...

Ok i get that. But if they cant charge my card without my id number how can they charge it if i dont show up? Either way they dont have my ID.

Do you have an ID number Mike, or do they want your passport number?
It's unlikely a company credit card would be tied to an individual ID number.

Yes, i have it taken care of. And your right. Its the owners private card just used for work expenses.
