Q: Another Victim of the Chinese "Yes" & an M Visa Question

So I ALMOST came to China on an M Visa to work at a school.  At the last minute they said I wasn't the right "look".  Despite having told me multiple times everything is fine, go ahead and book your ticket.

Clearly I am a victim of the Chinese "Yes" as are many foreigners who aren't white but still come from North America.

My question is I now have a 9 Year Multiple Entry M Visa in my passport...is it valid still even though I am not working with that company at all?

Teaching ESL isn't for me anyway so I am not that pissed off, even if I did lose $1000 in penalties and fees for canceling everything.

Your M (business) visa is definitely still valid to visit China for as many visits as you'd like, based on the number of days per entry it allows. It's not linked at all to that stupid lying company now. You just can't legally work on that visa.

If if you do decide to still come here and teach then find a company that will sponsor your Z visa while you are still in the USA and come here to work the legal way from day one. Good luck.

Great!  Good to know the $400 I spent getting the visa isn't a complete waste.  Thanks for your help!

M visa was never tied to sponsoring Co. You can walk away from the job anytime you desire.

It use to be called F, and I worked at few schools with F. Schools always demanded, I gave them my passport for the entire validity of F visa. They wanted to prevent walk away that way, but it's illegal. Both, working and receiving salary on M (F) visa, and keeping the passport.

I don't understand other part: 'I lost US$1000 for cancelling everything....'. How could you lose anything, if you've never worked for the School?

Shining_brow:

I think his penalties and fees are from cancelling flights, etc... but I'm guessing.

If it's for anything else - directly related to the 'job' - then yeah, not right!

Tough story: School's cancelling the job, after plane tickets were purchased. I'm not sure where would be the best place in China to address complains, if that would happened to me.

There would be nowhere in China to address your complaints in this situation. Not even your friends at SAFEA could help here.

They aren't my friends! I was asking SAFEA first time for an advice in 2012, while working with F, and they've solved the matter in my benefit. I wasn't required to leave the country as an illegal worker, but I was able to apply at another School, which offered Z. See thread 'Helen'.

TheShadowBroker:

Hello.

Thank you all for your valuable advice.

@Shining Yes those were fees from canceling plane tickets, rental cars, & hotels to get to China.  So not directly linked to the school.  Still annoying as hell though.
