Q: anxiety medication in China?

I've always struggled with anxiety but lived in denial about it for the most part and just dealt with the negative consequences that come with it.  Living in Beijing now though my anxiety has gotten much worse due to the overpopulation and certain social situations I find myself in far too often.  It's really starting to mess things up for me such as not showing up to work cause I have a breakdown, cancelling dates with friends or extended family, etc etc.

Is this something doctors know much about in China. I know a lot of social/mental disorders seem to be ignored in China so I don't want to waste my time going to the doctors if that's the case here.  I know in America or other countries they would give you Xanax or something similar, what do they give people in China for this type of thing, if anything at all.

Basically I guess my question is this..... if I go to the doctors in China and complain I'm suffering pretty bad from anxiety are they going to actually be able to give me something useful or are they just gonna brush me off and ignore me as some drama queen foreigner.

They have same the same meds as in the west for the most part. I don't take meds myself, but I have been in a small pharmacy store and seen various anxiolytics (the medication for anxiety).

I have been suffering depression for years......

Considering that the code of Ethics of physicians here is a big issue and I just don't trust the medical system here, I went home for treatment.

I did get hold of something or other once, a friend picked them up in a chemists, they were similar to valium, purely for recreation purposes mind, but after necking a couple I decided necking pills was no longer really me and just binned them. I know what you mean though, it can be a major head f**k sometimes. My advice is to find a Chinese friend and get them to go into a chemist and ask for relaxants, they are there to be found. You might have to experiment with a few but that's half the fun. Sorry I can't remember the name. And try the doctor too, you've nothing to lose, what do you care what he thinks? Personally I don't believe in medicating myself against my various mental disorders. Absolutely everything else but not things like the blues or anxiety, it seems to me that all a pill can do is put off facing and going through whatever is causing that stuff, so you might as well just get it over with. But there's nothing wrong with taking a break from it from time to time. Sort of a medicated holiday. Just don't move there for good.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
