are chinese capable of making sharp knives?  ones that will carve a chicken or a pig or a fish into  delightful meaty delectable pieces of food for the pleasure of a meal, or really just stuck on the hack and whack way of the past. I know they can do it...  just ask the local meat guy...  but the masses have to ask for it.

If you have the chance, would you emigrate from China, and why ?

Leo_N:

You know Chinese family is most important, so I could not. Because of my English is poor, I have more opportunities in China.

Some chinese emigrate is good for them. They want more stuff they can't get on China.

Why is it acceptable for Chinese people to ask intrusive/personal/offensive questions to non-Chinese people, yet when we ask the same questions to Chinese people they get offended?

Well Leo did open the door to lots of sarcastic answers with this question but I've gotta say respect to the guy. He's come back and given short but honest replies up to now from a Chinese point of view.

Something I've often wondered...

I have traveled to other countries several times with Chinese friends, and the subject of travel has come up a lot of times in conversation with friends or people I work with.

I hear again and again that Chinese people believe they'll be bullied or victimized in other countries just because they're Chinese.

" I can go to Thailand - no problem - but my Chinese friend will have problems because they're Chinese".

Do Chinese people really believe the world is out to get them?

Samsara:

Yesterday I was on a mo di (motorbike taxi) and the driver stopped amidst several other bikes (causing a bit of an obstacle). A Chinese woman saw that I was foreign and started cursing and ranting. She tried to make the other people laugh at me by saying that the stupid foreigner doesn't ting dong. I said "wo ting dong". People laughed about it, and she drove away, still cursing about me being foreign.

Now, whenever a video surfaces of a Chinese person abroad being targeted for verbal abuse, it is cause for unanimous netizen outrage, and proof that Chinese people are victimised everywhere, and that China requires condolences and apologies for the rest of time.

So why don't I need sympathy, or reparations for the terrible insult to all Australian people? It's the same god damn thing.

For Chinese nationals, feeling sorry for yourself and all Han people at every possible opportunity is Priority #1 in international relations.

Considering your own society's behaviour is not even a priority.

For anyone from a civilised nation, those two priorities are reversed.

Shining_brow:

Well, to be fair, their government has managed to piss off a lot of other countries recently.

Thailand is no exception. And Vietnam (and of course, you should see the racism towards the Philippines - and of course, Japan).

I have a friend who went to Laos and Vietnam, and he reckons that (some) people were friendly until he said where he came from. People forget how the Chinese backed the North Vietnamese back in the 60's, North Korea in the 50s, and are still firing shots every so often with some of the other border countries.

As well as the tuhaos buying up everywhere, and treating locals as inferior.

Stiggs:

I'm sure there are some bad feelings there, let's face it, China doesn't exactly go out there making friends with their neighbors. They just seem to turn everyone against them.

But,I've traveled with Chinese friends a lot, Always in SE Asia, and I've never seen any anti Chinese stuff. People there are generally really nice until you give them a reason not to be. Just like everywhere else.

An obnoxious tour group will probably get some attitude if they go outside their hotel or arranged tour, but I think that's because they're being assholes. I've always traveled with people who are polite and respectful and have only been treated as friends, like every other tourist there.

Why do the drivers slow down to 35 or 40 km/hr as they come up to cameras in areas where the speed limit is 50, 60 or even 80?

And why are they so bad at driving in general?

And how do they measure their success when they go about riding roughshod over everyone else in, on and around the road?

My guess is they do it with their willy out, hoping the chap will observe their prowess and give them the salute.

My personal position is that every day is one day closer to when I go all out ballistic and bring down upon them my 5 cents worth of wrath.

Shining_brow:

Won't have those echidnas for much longer... It'll have to be kangaroos soon...

And - I suspect because driving on such a mass scale is a very recent thing. We're used to it - like 70+ years. For some cities here, it's only been in the last 10 years to have so many people driving, and learning to drive.

Why, yes!

1. With the exception of yourself, why do all Chinese males on this website lie about their nationality?

2. Considering that Chinese people have created a society significantly worse than Australia in every aspect, what do you think of "Chinese wisdom"?

3. The two most frequently cited excuses for Chinese people's bad behaviour are "China has too many people" and "You don't understand Chinese culture." How does the number of people, or my lack of understanding, cause Chinese people to throw rubbish on the ground, eat with their mouths open, or lie compulsively?

4. What is Chinese culture?

(By "culture" I do not mean "history". I mean what is Chinese culture now?)

5. Chinese men often ask me if I like Chinese girls. They are displeased if I say Yes (because I have no right to Chinese girls) or if I say No (because that hurts the feelings of the Chinese people). Why do they ask this question?

Number 5 especially rings true for me. There's just no right answer.

What do you think of Chinese food?

All loaded questions!

My response is... there's good bits and bad bits. They take that well enough. (though they don't understand that my dislike of qingjiao - capsicum/peppers is not because it's 'hot' - it's because it tastes like crap!)

When Chinese people travel in other countries do they notice how much cleaner the public bathrooms are? Do they ever think it would be nice for the bathrooms in China to improve to that level?

Why does everywhere have the strong smell of piss and shit?

I have the misfortune to teach in a classroom opposite the toilet block at my University. When the draft picks up in the corridor a somewhat heady aroma wafts into the classroom. Scenes of much joy

So do I.  Filthy bastards.  A while back I supplied soap to five of the toilet blocks and by the next day there was no sign of it.  Some fkr even flogged my pump action beauty from my desk.  Buggered if I know what they thought they were going to do with it all.  What.

Oh and the obsession with the sleep, hot weather i  sort of get, but other times?

Why everyone here knows that corruption is rampant, cheating is accepted, everyone wants to rip you off... and yet will still say that Chinese people are honest, while foreigners can't be trusted?

(for that matter - everyone knows the government is corrupt - and yet still don't have a problem expecting said government to fix all the problems that abound)
