Q: Any recommended Chinese study apps for an android?

  *MARTIAN*ANDROID*MARTIAN*ANDROID*

  GZZZZPDZZPST*

  *I*AM×LIVING*TISSUE*OVER*METAL*ENDO-SKELETON*

  *BZZZZZZP*

*TAKE*ME*TO*YOUR*LEADING*PRODUCERS*OF*CHINESE*STUDY*MATERIALS*

  *DZZZTSK*

Nope, not that kind of android, I mean the new-fangled phone variety, I just got a hand-me-down from my sister-in-law and I want to put it to good use. If you know of any free language apps that would suit, i'd appreciate it. I guess you have to pay for the decent courses, so if you have any advice there, the cheaper the course, the more likely I am to use it (or rather the more likely i'm gonna get the nod off the wife to go ahead and buy it). I'm already at intermediate level, just looking for new avenues of motivation. Cheers.

I like the "Train Chinese" app a lot, which is just a flash card app with a few extra features to it.

If you have another way of doing actual Chinese lessons, then this Train Chinese app is really great as a supplementary study method.  It's nice to be able to review flashcards and practice writing characters, and look at example sentences during the more mundane parts of life (waiting on food to come, ect.)

If you don't purchase a membership then you have severe limitations for flash card storage.  So I recommend that if you look into this software, that you have a high level o commitment  to learning quickly.

Oh yeah, one slight perk:  The app has tons of pre-made vocabulary lists that are directly from certain common Chinese textbooks.  Boya Hanyu is one such series of textbooks that has a lot of vocabulary lists.   There are also different levels of HSK in there.

My suggestion would be that you could probably buy a cheap Chinese textbook for 30-40 RMB a pop, do a lesson every day or two, and load its associated vocabulary list into your TrainChinese app.  And any time you want revisit that vocabulary when sitting on the subway, ect.

This type of learning may be different from what you're gunning for, but I figured I'd go ahead and make the suggestion.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
