Q: Any of your students have hilarious English names?

In one class: Eternal Dawn
In the same class: a guy called Happy, another called Sad
In another: Rainbow

Even some of the younger Chinese English teachers chose 'wisely'. I did a double-take when one of them introduced herself as 'Apple'

Some boy names: Endless Night, Hulk (and he was 156cm tall), Jizz, Veedee(VD), Hymen

Girl names: Easy, Twink, Taint, Poopy, Lawanda

On a sidenote, everytime I encounter a student with an English name referring to "intelligence", these students are the most idiotic: Smart, Genius, Brain, and Einstein were some of the dumbest students I've had.

markferrer:

Where I come from, Atlanta, Lawanda is a real common name

Kids at that age don't have too many exams. It is entirely Chinese parents fault! They don't understand, English name to Chinese person is because of foreign language learning. Parents think, they must choose as biological 'owners' 'right' English name to student, and they refuse to change it.

In Yingkou, I had 1.5 years old student with English name 'Savannah'. I told her 'niang', it will take probably another year of oral practice, till she will be able to answer the question: 'What is your name?', butt.... to no avail.

I had one 9 year old student this week who'd decided to make a name change to Vanessa, which is not such a funny name in itself, except that the student in question is a boy. I was tempted to slap young Vanessa on the back and tell him 'good choice' but I didn't have the heart.

Echo is common. It comes and goes.

We have blue, green, Elvis, summer, holiday, big red, small red, and a little old lady. My daughter is little orange, her friend is big Apple. Too many names. I can't keep up.
