Q: Anyone here who can share their experience of getting a BCT (Business Chinese Test) certification?

BCT and HSK are two certifications for foreigners in China conducted by the Hanban institute, for Mandarin proficiency. HSK is for students who want to study in China, the medium of instruction being Chinese. BCT is more suited for a working environment.

I am presently preparing for the BCT as I intend to seek employment in China and if any members here have some suggestions and tips specifically for BCT certification, I'd really appreciate your inputs.

BCT is still relatively new and not as well recognised.  I haven't taken it myself but some of my classmates did. HSK is not for students who want to study in China, its a Chinese proficiency test.

As far as I know BCT is more business orientated, but like I said, not well recognised.  No company will ask if you have a BCT, some might ask if you have HSK though.  Seen as though you're already preparing for it, it won't do any harm having it, but certainly consider doing the HSK.  If you're just taking it because you think companies will look favourably on it, you're mistaken.  Most companies don't even know what HSK is.  If you're doing it to improve your business Chinese, then there's really no point.  You might learn some more specific terms, but  you might as well just save your money, keep studying, and get a HSK in the future.
