Q: Anyone live in Jiangxi province?

I'm just curious what people thought of the province in general...any bits of info would be fine.

My first year in China, I was in Fuzhou just south of Nanchang...Rural...my favorite time in China...felt it was a more realistic look at the country...country folks tend to be less contrived...Was in Nanchang a few times...yer money will go a lot further there...It was kind of amazing..Jiangxi...To me, it was like my Chinese "childhood"..Things like ghost cities..built but never used... secluded temples on mountains...you could ride a bike and be in a very remote place in little time...Some of the bizarre things that happen in any countryside happened there ..but if you are from the country, bizarre is part of your upbringing

My in-laws live in Jiangxi province in a small village.

biggj123:

You and I seem to have the same deal going. My in laws are from a little village sort of close to Shangrao. I go there a lot to the province but never lived there. But was thinking of moving back there to be closed to her family. What do you think the best city is?...I was also thinking of maybe moving to Juijiang...but I still haven't decided.

Hotwater:

Even closer! My wife's village is also near Shangrao. Nearest town is Zhangcun Zhen near Dexing.

I like visiting, it's not a bad village but I like city life at the moment and Guangzhou has been my wife's home for 20 years now.

My ex girl friend from 2008 was from JiangXi, I went there 7 times and its very much in the development stage still, much like Hainan, if you are thinking of living & working there I think you should visit or youtube some videos of it first before you do anything. I got bored as hell.

biggj123:

I search youtube a lot for Nanchang and Jiujiang and basically get nothing...just a few cheap Chinese tourist videos with some David Attenboroughh  knock off talking for 3 minutes. I found 1 decent video by "Vagabond Journey " or something like there where he just shows street life and its cool....but does not go into anything specific. The most info I found was from Wikipedia...seems not a lot of foreigners there.

My fiance is from Nanchang. I would say it's a beautiful area with people that are at least slightly less xenophobic than cities in the North.
Pay is a tad lower, but there is plenty of part time available.

biggj123:

I was living in Hangzhou before and when I went to Jiangxi you can see the price different on things for a lot of things...taxi, food, apartment almost half the price of HZ. And since the G20 it's gotten worse.

My first gig was in Jiujiang, Jiangxi. i was there for 2 years.

JX doesn't impress me overly much... it's more rural than other places I've been. Nanchang is not known for being a great capital city... and, in China, that says a lot! Tongue

I wouldn't want to live there (NC), and anything called 'international' certainly wasn't!

Definitely a place where foreigners will get looked (stared) at.

Food, though - other than oily, wasn't too bad... although, you may not want to ask what's in it .

Like most places in China, the better things are where the locals aren't.

biggj123:

What draws me there is the rural aspects of it. The pollution seems worse there though. In general though I like the feel of the cities...kind of old school. But the most i've spent there is like 2 weeks at a time in some village time forgot...literally forgot lol . It's like walking back 300 years in time.

Shining_brow:

If it was like that, in some ways it wouldn't be so bad!

But it's this TERRIBLE combination of old and new... some of the worst aspects of what happens when change happens too fast!

Yes, driving up from Nanchang to Jiujang - very brown sky all the way up... and this was in September (ie, not midwinter when the worst pollution comes along)

@biggj, try living in Shenzhen for 2 weeks and JX will seem like 20 years behind.
