Q: Anyone noticed how bad of a rep South Koreans have here?
A sample of all I've heard:
South Koreans are... loud, fake (plastic surgery), untrustworthy, etc. etc. etc.
The disdain most people I've met have for Koreans is almost greater than the one they have for Japanese.
I'm not a history buff - does this go way back or something?
Actually the only stuff i've ever heard about any Koreans has been how cute some soap opera star is. Otherwise not a thing.
-South Korean society is arrogant in the extreme, xenophobic, and shallow. In other words take everything bad about China and Japan, and you get Korea.
-I can't tell you how many other teacher I've met, who can't tell you how glad they were to leave their higher salary job in Korea, and come here to China.
-Korea is just depressing. It looks pretty outside, but inside the society is sick. The ex-president kills himself, the youth ARE obsessed with plastic surgery, and the children are forced to go without sleep to study in school. A miserable place.
Yes, it DOES go waaaaaaaaaay back! OMG, don't even get me started!! I taught there for years..had many bad experiences just like MANY other foreigners..both from the East and West! Some of them are nice BUT as for the others..:( :( :( "how cute some soap opera star is." That's nothing. That's just an extremely small part of their society. I would also add ethnocentric,rude,disrespectful,ill-mannered,ridiculous and strange!

Probably well deserved.
Interesting, spy on a girl under the skirt or bathroom and that's ok, but spy cam a male and go straight to jail. Well a lot of Korean men are not getting laid tonight when this hits the news.
