I understand that for some people, it's the easiest way to let their family and friends see what their day to day life is like...but really, most of the people I've met who write them are genuinely convinced it's the most amazing stuff around. That it's unique, that their experience is worth your time, etc etc...
No offense, but it's not like living a year in China is the equivalent of crossing the Sahara by foot.
Because if you don't sell it as the most amazing, the people back home will loose interest. Even they people that you used to talk to everyday about just normal life back home, their level of caring starts to fade.
Even if daily life is China is more interesting, it doesn't involve the people back home and as humans we are selfish and tend to care less when not personally involved.
So you start to loose contact with those people, or you refuse to accept that people are moving on without you and trying to over sell the conversation to keep people coming back.
Awwwww, ouch. I write a blog. It serves as a nice way for me to put my thoughts in order, as a hobby, as a way to let people at home know what life here involves for me.
Blogs are dull if the person writing them cannot write, and interesting if the person writing them is an effective writer. I don't think that China blogs are necessarily more dull than others.

MissA, not only that, but also realizing that for some that may read a blog, what is interesting for you con be a bore to the reader. Yet, in most cases, the ones I do read are from family members and it is a way to keep in touch and kow what others are doing. But for an stranger, the stuff written could mean nothing and become boring soon.

I suppose it depends on the reader's area of interest, also. Personally, I could quite happily read endless amounts of lively articles and analysis on an area I am interested in. I don't need to know the person.
The amount of blogs that relate in excruciating detail a person's daily routine is astonishing, but I guess someone must read them.
