it is complicated issue. the most difficult problem is the china goverment refuse the Vatican involved china christians business. i can't tall you who right or who wrong. you should chat some chinese christans in person. i know the fact is the number of china christians increased every year.
Shining_brow:
You do know that the Vatican only relates to only a certain percentage of Christians?? I'm pretty sure the Greek Orthodox, Anglicans, Lutherans, Mormons, etc., don't see this as a problem at all...
MrTibbles:
The problem only exists for Catholics - as they follow the Vatican.
As long worship with a State-Approved sect in a licenced church, and don't try to convert people, you should be fine.
no in fact china does the church business right. your beliefs are your own business
My GF is Catholic according to her. and she goes to Church each Sunday too. And receives Communion. Yet, to my puzzlement, considers also the Moon as a form of God, and prays to it. And if she walks in front of a Temple, she will drop a small donation on the box, light three incense sticks and prays to Buddha too. And to muy knowlegde, she is not discriminated by anyone, nor persecuted bt any authorities.
The conflict between the Vatican and the Chinese Governement is in regards of who really controls the Chinese Catholic Church. Both want to. The Vatican wishes to nominate its Bishops and Cardinals, and the Chinese Government wants to nominate those practicing in China. Every other country llows the Vatican to do whatever nomination they wish, separating government from religion related issues.
crimochina:
i believe that is good on china to not allow the vatican to control the church within their borders. the vatican works very closely with western govs because they help each other out. in china, the cath church would try to undermine the gov. (i dont like the gov here but i believe that is a rotten thing to do)
first conflict between china and Vatican in Qing dynasty. as record, the missionary respected by Kang Xi emperor and they study with each other. but the Vatican forbid the chinese follower worship ancestor and emperor. thant totally unaccepted by common people and rulers. so the Qing goverment expel those missionary shut down their churchs and forbidden western religions in china until First Opium War.
Christians should be persecuted everywhere like all religious nut-cases who have been screwing the world for centuries with unsubstantiated vitriol
Yes. But I don't care. They're just as power hungry.
