some chinese people are saying facebook is not allowed in china, i want to be sure , is facebook allowed in china?
and does majority of chinese use facebook?
Facebook, YouTube, Blogger and a bunch of other websites are blocked by China for the good of the people.
Most Chinese people use QQ, Sina, Netease & Weibo. Facebook is hard for them to reach since the government blocked the evil website for their own good.
Oh, please! You are projecting all your dearly-acquired values, important to you, onto the Chinese landscape as if you didn't realise or understand that your "important" and "valuable" are merely relative constructs that are, in fact, quite irrelevant to another context. If you are in China by choice, then let go of your insistence that the Chinese reality morph itself into something that is acceptable to you. It serves no purpose to pontificate over Chinese values - the Chinese people have the right and privilege to decide for themselves what their reality is, with or without our consent or agreement.
Scandinavian:
no they don't, that is the whole point. Not saying that western influence is a good thing, but if it was a free world, the western influence would be more, for the good and the bad it would bring
FACE BOOK is blocked! Nobody is able to use it unless.....you have a secret you don't want to share with us. ANd if that's the case be our guest.
It's not a matter of being allowed to use it, it's a matter of accessing it.

nevermind, I NEVER agree with you, neverever, not one time but here I agree with you 10,000%
Scandinavian - the government of any country represents "the people" and their values. I am convinced that the vast majority of Chinese citizens fully ascribe to their government's views and values. The few possible mavericks that you refer to find themselves in a trying situation, I am sure, but that's how things go, isn't it? Censorship happens in any country, in some shape or form, and one shouldn't presume that China needs to model her censorship on a model that is foreign to her.
Sure,Some of Chinese will use Facebook.but they have to use a vpn to access Facebook. Most of Chinese love to use QQ,Sina,RenRen...etc.

As nevermind said, how can one use something on a regular basis that one can access only through a backdoor and only then until the backdoor is shutdown.
I recently was introduced to a good Russian friend who was able to assist me with this problem.

981, I'm pretty sure you already know but there are plenty of reliable VPN's that allow access to FB, and I'm pretty sure there are a fair few Chinese with the money to afford to pay for them.
My own VPN has worked reliably for over two years now, never a single down day, but it has thousands of IPs in 10s of different countries and I can switch as often as I like.

Hugh, I thought that we were discussing the morality of the issue and not the VPN aspects of it. Forgive me if I did not understand the question correctly. And additionally, they have become quite adept at shutting down VPN's here at an alarming rate. Up today, gone tomorrow, or almost anyway.
Facebook is allowed to be used by Chinese BUT the Chinese government have blocked it. However they do keep an eye on it by listening in for any mentions of China, CCP, etc.
Some tech-savvy Chinese use a VPN or proxy but for most they don't have the need to use Facebook as they are content with using QQ, Sina Weibo, RenRen, etc.
