Q: Are skinny, boney girls considered pretty here?

Like the skeletal super models, with the hip bones jutting out. That considered beautiful here?

As China's fashion becomes more in tune with western ideas of beauty, and working from the assumption that the natural body types are already present here in large numbers, from personal conversations and observation, I would have to contend that, yes, this could be considered as "pretty."

That being said, it is only within the last 50 years that the "slim is beautiful" idea has been perpetuated upon the masses. Before that, it was considered unhealthy, part of the reason being that a mature figure was thought to be more apt to bear children, and in essence, to survive the rigors of childbirth.

In China (and speaking "straight from the hip," as it were), I would think that the association of skinny lies in tandem with age, as in "young girls are skinny, older ones are not." While this is a generalization (having seen plenty of slim, older women), the idea may be attractive because of this age equals ideal weight relationship. Also, as one moves into the cosmopolitan centers of China, where western fashion ideas are emulated, this may be more prevalent. However, as one travels out into the countryside and rural areas, the idea of feminine beauty may be along the lines of "heavier is better."

Of course, weight in relation to beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. For some, it is personality and chemistry which sets the standard of what they find pretty or attractive, not only in China, but the world over.

I like the look of slim girl's body, but skinny... I would be afraid to hurt her just by...  ekhem... hugging for example Wink

I do like also "full body" - the key is the beauty that is inside...

But I'm not Chinese, just saying opinion about Chinese women.

___

Speaking about Chinese girls... many of them are obsessed by loosing a weight. Where it comes from? Mostly - from the west, where skinny models were presented first, and are standard in fashion.

But I think, that being skinny is less natural for Asians... because their body is build differently, they are naturally ... hm... "compact"  and for me (as I said) - it is nice Smile

i think it's something to do with malnutrition. I've seen people walking around here and I would bet $100 they suffered from a poor diet during their youth. In the words of the immortal Shakingaspeare~~~

'Rice doth not a proper complete meal maketh, ultimately will feed the crows as well before the Midnight calls.'

Yes, I prefer thin, healthy girls. Cali girls !!! angel
