Q: Are Sorrel and Vicky the only women on this forum?

What's up with this?  Are you guys so mean, rude, or nasty?  Were there ever more than a handful of females here?

There aren't that many female expats in China. We tend to move on to other countries, There were five females who taught at my university last semester. Now, the remaining two are me and the 40 year old destitute college dropout loser with no option but to live in China. And I am counting down the days until my contract is up so I can just go to Vietnam already.

Women don't stick around this country...we don't date the locals, and we don't marry into them. Once that hurdle is up, there are actually very few things that would keep someone in China, when there are nicer countries to go to.

Eorthisio:

Reminds me of a friend who was telling me a few years ago that she regretted moving to China after 5 years in South Korea, I asked her if it's because South Korea is wealthier, there are more things to do overall, more fun to have and it's just more livable. She said no, it's because Korean men are attractive and interesting, Chinese men just aren't.

Eh, it's not even the men. I don't really have problems with my dating life in China...it's just the feeling that I'm wasting my time here. Every time I travel outside into East Asia, I find countries that are more beautiful, and populated by more interesting people, than China. Different women will leave for different reasons. I even know a young woman who went to Saudi Arabia and loves it. When I asked her on Skype why, she intimated that the culture there sucks, but it does not pretend anything else, and they pay her more than enough money to put up with them. Which is better than a place where the culture just sucks.

I'm guessing there were never many females. A lot more men come to China than women. Its harder for women to break emotional bonds with friends and family and move thousands of miles away. Men are more willing to take risks and coming to China I suppose is a risk. A major motivation for men to come to China is because they have "yellow fever". Whereas foreign women seldom seem to want a Chinese partner. Sp they are a lot less women here to use this forum

I think that women are turned off by the maleness of this forum. Constant sarcastic male humor, irrelevant anti Chinese questions. If it was more a forum about asking knowledge seeking questions about China, more women would use it

Indeed.  It matters not if we are male or female. What matters is to have an opinion, and answers for those who need them wink

Mean, rude or nasty ? I will pick "mean" ^^ It's Internet, and with long term expats in a country where speaking freely is so, so, so difficult. So it's not all roses and unicorns...

There are a few others women hanging around: Garbo, Rachel, Lilichristian, <somebody>86, maybe Hunana (vague memory, might be wrong).

Ha...Sorrel,you see.Somebody is jelous of us.
It's like some little boys like playing with little Sorrel and little Vicky because little Sorrel and Vircky like to anticipate the same game too. There is another little wendy girl starts complainning the boys only play with sorrel and Vicky while she wasn't trying to anticipate the same game as often as Sorrel and Vicky do.Naturally, the little boys' topics are more about the two little girls(Sorrel and Vicky). The little wendy girl got mad:Why only talk about them? Why not me?I am a girl too :( :(

I'll answer this question on my own behalf because i have no idea what Vicky is on about and she certainly can't answer for anyone other than herself.

At this time of year there seems to be more male pissing contests and verbal incontinence than actual helpful or interesting posts on this forum, probably due to Spring Festival. In the last few weeks i have got more useful information off the back of a cereal box. IMO

iWolf raised a very good point about the quality of conversations that guys have online: mind numbing.

ScotsAlan:

It's because we are bored. We have no real questions to answer because it's that time of year. But we are doing our best to keep the tumble weed away. We are trying to keep the forum going, as you do, until the next influx of questions .

two regular female users is probably representative of the female expat population in china. there are maybe 40 frequent posters, making it a 20:1 ratio at worst. it's quite a sausagefest here in China. and i don't think ECC's atmosphere is unwelcoming to women; their input gets a good deal of appreciation, even when one of them was banned for abuse/narco-trolling and plainly revealed her identity under a new username. i doubt a self-absorbed male insulting other users would get such a second chance, let alone supporters who enjoy his comments.

Chris Rock says women need food, water and compliments. ECC supplies the last, so logic dictates that this forum is unwelcoming to women because it can't deliver groceries. probably better not to start catering, though: nobody gives a fuck about daddy, but he does get the big piece of chicken at the dinner table.
