If not, why not?
11 years 29 weeks ago in Teaching & Learning - China
In my experience Expats are an insular bunch, that plus the fact that we're spread wide over a huge nation.
Also of course it may get to look a little too much like a Union for comfort, (either mine or the governments).
lokethebloke:
So no lobbying either then? As in all those great democratic institutions that we both know well.
You younger people know better than me, is there no such thing as tinternet conferencing?
Hugh.G.Rection:
I like China, but I've got no intention of pissing them off, I've seen the jails and they aren't nice!
I've asked a similar question myself, and it seems the answer is no, there isn't. So I propose to that end we start one ourselves, right here and now. First order of business, beer; who has a bottle opener, I can't find mine?
PS: Tinternet? Not a Peter Kay fan by any chance, are you?
In other words, not a snowball's chance in hell. Communists on one side and Tories on the other, it's obviously doomed.
All right I'll join you for a beer. I think the man would make a fantastic guest speaker.
lokethebloke:
I think Mr Kay would have some important and very funny things to say, but he's got to bring his own beer.
giadrosich:
I'd prefer Danny Kay as the first key note speaker, but, alas...
lokethebloke:
Just out of curiosity G, do you know who Peter Kay is. A free Guinness if you can tell me without referring to the tinternet.
Poor old Danny, a good bloke.lokethebloke:
Have a word with the man from Mars, he's more articulate than me.
mArtiAn:
Peter Kay: northern funnyman in the tradition of Ronnie Barker. A real hoot of a player.
lokethebloke:
Well bugger, I could have done better myself. No doubt we'll have Mr G asking who Ronnie Barker is next. Surfise to say, they are and in the case of Mr Barker, sadly no longer with us, a couple of the best comedians to have graced our shores.
And now just in case you, Mr G have had somebody else trying to tell you otherwise, I'm sure that you of all people from the former colonies, will be fully aware that our shores are just across the Atlantic from yours. For the benefit of some who are not too good at geography, that's the bit of water, sometimes referred to as 'the pond' that lies between Europe/Africa and the two Americas. Not the bloody big 'lake' between the Americas and Asia.
you know good and well that any such thing would be seen as an attempt to unionize. and that is illegal in china. go fish.
lokethebloke:
You are an ignorant little person.
I'm trying to suggest that teachers and those of you who profess to be teachers, and who are concerned about the education system here should get together on the tinternet and discuss possible ways of improving what I'm sure even you will agree is a broken system. Apparently they did import the system from your wonderfully well educated country so perhaps our cousins could come up with a way to fix it.
Just a few people getting together to chat, what's the harm in that? The lobbying can come later.
crimochina:
that is unionizing you dumb puck. the schools are controlled by the govt. any attempt to organize in an attempt to change anything about the schools is illegal. go fish wumao.
crimochina:
a few days ago there was a protest turned riot at an apple factory run by foxxconn. 40 people were arrested. foxxconn is not a govt company but if anyone attempts to organize in order to improve their conditions they are jailed and possibly executed. so you and your 3 personalities go form a wumao union
lokethebloke:
Not where I come from it isn't, you've obviously been reading too much scary propaganda. Have you tried talking rationally with the powers that be, I think that you could be surprised.
lokethebloke:
Ref the 11th of September posting, Is throwing in your twopeneth and making suggestions to fellow teachers unionising? Or is it showing a healthy regard for professional standards of teaching and not bullying of students?
China enjoy to reap the benefits of the curriculum regardless what the subject is, but they do not like teacher or whoever to enjoy the protection.
