Q: Are you more or less money-conscious in China?

Seeing as how most of us can live off reasonably well on our salaries, how conscious are you of your money in China? Are you just as eager and hungry for a salary raise?

I am more conscious of my money situation here because it's easy to blow it all.  Everything is cheap so I shop a lot. I eat out every night with friends and its one beer then the next and soon the bill is sky high. At home I always know how to manage my money and I always have food in teh house so i don't spend money going out all the time. It's cheap here but I spend more.

In this regard, less... as you said, I have more money to throw around than back home, so I'm more inclined to throw it around... more expensive dinners, taxis, western foods, etc etc..

But then, I don't go out a lot, and I cook at home most of the time, so it works out pretty well...

I believe I more actually more careful with my spending on certain areas and less on others.

For example: On food, I probably spend more because I eat out more and there are just more restaurants all around me and delicious kinds of food. I also spend a lot more on traveling.

But in terms of buying high priced electronics, furniture and other things I feel that I won't need in the long-term I save a huge amount on.

Basically, my focus has changed from spending more on products to spending more on comfort and enjoyment... and still being able to save!

More careful, simply because if I go about it the right way I could actually live soo cheaply here and save loads of money , even if I'm making less here than I would back home. Besides most of the time I "splurge" on things the quality NEVER matches the prices and I end up regretting spending so much money on garbage.

Before you judge someone walk a mile in their shoes, that way you're a mile away and you have their shoes!
