Q: Are you used to food poisoning in China?

It doesn't seem to happen often to me, but sure seems to happen more than it should.

You get sick much?

For me, compared to Vietnam, it happens less often. Vietnam's climate is less forgiving of shoddy practices, that might explain the difference. Gutter oil is unforgiving, beware the dodgy food stall next to the train station, with deep fried stuffs and funny smelling oil Laughing out loud

I like to think I have quite a strong gut. However, even I get the odd nasty bout of the shits every now and then. Only happens here for me. 33 other countries and never had a problem.

I like to think I'm just more smart about now.  I know which places are more likely to cause me issues, and so I steer clear of them. Before that though, I got the shits more often than I would like to admit

I'm used to having long runny shits, if that's what you mean. Doesn't bother me, I used to shit blood with the breezeblocks I was producing back home, now I don't even have to strain, I just let out a low sigh.

That was more information than you were really asking for i'm guessing.

I bought plastic oil (fake oil) to cook with, it almost killed me. Luckily I found out soon enough and knew what to do. That was the closest I have ever come to being exterminated by food...well...except for Dominos pizza in America.

cooter:

You too huh?  Domino's got me once....and once only.  Never again

only once got food poisoning, thankfully . now i employ preventative methods regarding food here, and i think having been here for a couple of years has clearly strengthened my stomach's capacity for dodgy food.

I was a teacher at the Mianyang Foreign Languages School in Sichuan Province of the People's Republic of China.  After 30 days, I was discharged.  I received no salary, severance, or travel expense reimbursement.  Do you support not paying discharged foreign teachers at British Columbia Ministry of Education certified schools?

For the 3 years in China I've been seriously food poisoned twice. By serious I mean the ones with puking, merciless diarrhea and high temperature. The first time was after that boiled food that ayis sell everywhere at night (I blame mushrooms here). And the second time it happened after eating in a shady western style fast food restaurant with flies and roaches all over the place. I don't think my occasional diarrheas count as food poisoning.

I find I'm just used to not always being 100% well. In the south it was much worse because the temperatures were more moderate. Living in Yunnan you are guaranteed to be at least kind of sick most of the time. I have been pleasantly surprised since moving north though. Feel much healthier!
