Q: Background Check Authetication for teaching visa?

I am trying to get a Z visa and work permit for teaching. I had my degree authenticated before I left the USA but when I got to Shanghai,  the school told me that my background check needs to be authenticated which became effective by the China Gov. on April 1, 2017. Monday, I went to the US Embassy to get the background check notarized so that I could send it back to the US to start the authentication process. When I got there, two of the women, including the one notarizing the document, told me that a notarized affidavit by the US Consulate , with my declaration that I have not committed any crimes was sufficient and that I should not send the background check back to the USA for authentication. They told me that may foreigners have gotten their teaching visa with this affidavit. Is this true? Has anyone else gotten this in lieu of an authenticated background check.

Thanks

"with my declaration that I have not committed any crimes was sufficient"

Yeah - I'm sure LOTS of criminals wish it was this easy....

tfuller87:

Before this new authentication law, it was that easy to fake a background check you do not need an affidavit to do that. You people really need to cut back on the sarcasm and help people by providing reliable information and sources.

Stick OP's Q in Yahoo-gle and see the same Q posted on '77' different websites .....

How can you think/do 'fake background check'?

It never crossed my mind I would produce 'fake background certificate', 'cause why would I fake it as one who had never committed the serious crime.

Your declaration? I also 'declared' to the School's rep, that I've never been to jail and he nodded and asked me for the BG certificate (out of Police in my home city), because he must present BG certificate at WP application to SAFEA!

It seems you (OP) is jerking off with some proper Englo BS!

I had to get mine out of my city's police dept. (2013), which was stamped and what not. The original form was sufficient without any authorization ... Who could authorize it anyway? My Bj Embassy? I wouldn't even ask them such Q because they would laugh at me, and if certification would be required out of Chinese Embassy in my home country (EU), they would ask me that at Z application.

So Q seems moot, what is the cause for the 'smart' remarks.

How to get BG check? Ask cops in your city about it and if you are in China ask your Bj Embassy and they'll advise you on the proper way to get it!

@Tfuller... perhaps this is precisely why they've introduced all these new checks, stamps, authentications, etc... and why being an ESL teacher has such a low reputation in this country - because everyone is so used to fakes, that so are those who actually know what they're doing.

Now, I don't know the precise steps to getting your background check done for the US of A, but I can tell you all about the process for Australians... and, yes, it does require official stamps by our Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), which I believe is the equivalent of your State Department... After they've done their bit, then it needs to go to the local (in Australia) Chinese consulate for authentication (of the DFAT stamp - not of the document itself).

A signed affidavit would be completely useless....

And, as a representative of my state's legal system, who has the right to take Affidavits, Statutory Declarations and Sworn Oaths (all with the same significance of swearing in a court of law - ie, you knowingly lie, you go to prison for perjury), I do have a pretty good idea of the full meaning of said documents.... not a hell of a lot in a foreign country!

So - I'd suggest - stop looking for a really simple solution, and just go with what's actually known to be right!

Sadly, its all that was required from me to get a Z visa from within Canada. Now doing my renewal, and its the same thing. So, you saying criminals wish it was this is.... its true, depending the area and location you are in.

Use your brain.

Chinese authorities whom actually process your application tells you one thing (as of April 1st)

US embassy that has nothing to do with anything the Chinese govt does, tells you sth different based on how it was before (keyword).

You can't figure it out?

Did you use your brain because obviously you did not comprehend the part where I said that the US Embassy stated that many foreigners have gotten their visa with the affidavit. They also said that they have received no complaints after people paid $50 dollars for it.

Oh and can you please give me a reliable, credible source from Chinese Authorities where they say the background check has to be authenticated since you are so intelligent. For some reason, I cannot seem to locate it.

You said the school told you. That raises a question!
Maybe the school doesn't want you for some reason. Go work for another school.

tfuller87:

I doubt it considering my boss was more than willing to pay my first month's rent, deposit, & cell phone bill. He was also willing to let me drive his car and asked me if I could teach him English. He also tells me that my English is better than the other two teachers and he selects me for special projects. The visa agent told him that the background check needs to be authenticated. I cannot find this info anywhere even after reading the new laws.

So much hassle to get a teaching gig, not worth it, go to Japan or Korea instead.

RandomGuy, there you go again, acting like a weak & irresponsible baby. In life you will run into countless challenges, this is a small one that includes a vacation back home. IF you were my little brother I'd ask : "How in the hell do you plan to function in our world today, keep a steady job or even start a family when every challenge is too difficult for you?" Complaining about won't work! Grow up!

Something China has taught me and is right about. Playing by the rules sucks, it's so much easier to cheat and lie your way up. I never worked so little and earned so much than today. Not talking in terms of ESL earnings here, but business owner's. That many years in China may have had an impact on my mental health, but it's been very rewarding financially speaking.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
