Q: Because he can

Just a little story to warm your hearts at Christmas time.

Recently my Chinese friend, a 40 year old lady who teaches at a middle school and a genuinely nice person, told me how her school principal ordered her and other teachers to stay in the office after normal work hours.

Now you might think he wanted to tell them something or hold a meeting or something of that nature. Well if you thought that you'd be dead wrong.

They sat there for about two hours twiddling their thumbs while the boss talked on his mobile phone and went in and out of the office. Finally he let them go. I was baffled. Why? asked I. She smiled sadly at me and said, "because he's the boss. He has the power to do it and he wants us to know it."

So the next time you feel badly treated here because you're not Chinese - bear in mind how they treat their own.

This is extremely common among daluren bosses/leaders past and present. The reason is because the society is pathological, to put it mildly. These power freaks need to see you suffer as a result of their power over you to be happy.  In short, sadism at its worst.

The same way a drill can build or kill, power/money can bring happiness or sufferings.

Trump gets it right, China has a deceitful culture; an understatement in my opinion.

2017 is going to be an interesting year. Will Trump pull the rug from under China by challenging their protectionism and currency manipulation? And if he does, what will happen to all the foreign devils living in the Middle Kingdom? Glad i'm getting out of here next month.

The next couple of years are going to be interesting to watch. From Trump's present trajectory he is going to pull the carpet underneath China. It is time someone puts the World's Thug down.

Watching Trump's moves and the team he puts together, or people he is conversing with (Kissinger included) I think he can do it.  Take for example, the open (whole world knows it) conversation with Taiwan's President, is a daring and good move. You don't run from a bully like a grade school kid does when you are talking about a nation filled with abusers who want to screw you in the worst possible ways they can find. You put him down, for good.

Another example, he played the commies (i.e. Beijing) supremely well with the underwater sonar thing. What did he say when Beijing said they would return it?  Ans: We don't want it anymore.  When did he say that?  He waited until Beijing said they would return the device. Now that put the commies in a highly embarassed spot. "To return or not to return it", lol. Smart move.  Also, he wasn't the president of USA yet, so what role was he using when he said that?  Civilian.  What could the commies do? Nothing.

What did Mr. Nice Guy, also Nobel Peace prize laureaute, and his team do? Ans. Yell "this is an act of war!" What's next? Nothing.  If it is an act of war, ACT! Retailiate!!!   The commies had Obama (and in general, all the developed countries) figured out, the same way any thug (Philippine's Duturte included) figured out how to deal with those in suits. Behind closed doors, you can bet they were laughing out loud.

It is time to put these thugs and cancerous cells down. If it takes dozens of rounds of chemo therapy so mote it be.

No worries with "foreign devils". The catcalls, provocative stares, mannerless insults.....are a result of the laowais' government's "weaknesses". The locals know it, that's one reason they dare to sink their claws into you.  Ask any expat who had been in PRC long enough what it was like decades ago. Catcalls? You must be joking.

If anything, it would be BETTER once Trump puts China into the microwave oven and presses the on button. But if you want to play safe, it is wise to leave, at least temporarily.

All the best. Get some popcorn, sit back and enjoy the show, at home.

It is perverse capitalism because it is practiced by perverts, as simple as that. Understandably, Navaro is being diplomatic, the truth is, the crux of the problem is the majority of daluren themselves, who have sadistic psyches.

Navaro is right, it is not just America's problem;  USA isn't the only country trading with China. Xi's "one belt one road" strategy is a three prong strategy, targetting the entire Europe,  north/middle/south, all the way to Africa.

There are no cracks cancer cells would not try to squeeze into, there are no organs they would not seek to invade, inflict pain and sufferings, and finally destroy. The longer you wait to do chemo the more ground you lose.  The reason Hitler gets the upper hand in WW II is because the humanistic, naive,  Chamberlain thought he could "educate", "appease" Hitler, who was a psychopathic pervert.

This is why Obama, Hillary and their kind are helpless (and useless) in front of dalu perverts.  Their Harvard law degrees, court debates, duo process, are scorned by Xi, Putin, Duturte and the likes. Yeah I've seen a lot of this sort of thing with Chinese managers.

The sad thing is, when one petty little bully leaves and someone else is promoted up the new manager often does the same sort of thing.

It's unfair, cruel etc etc when it happens to you but if you happen to be the boss then it's your right to do this because you're the boss with a lot of face and everyone better notice that you're the boss and how much face you have, and kowtow to you and if you don't strut around like an angry peacock how else will people know how much face you have and help inflate your ego.

That's the face culture. Ego and self esteem is derived from the ability to treat others like crap and have them fear you.

Think you missed the point here mate. I'm not saying we shouldn't complain about how we're treated, it's one of my favourite pastimes actually. But do you think most Chinese bosses would even dream of doing something like that to a foreign teacher? They know the waiguoren would just laugh at them and leave. We have it bad sometimes but they often have it worse. Now whether that's their own fault or not is an interesting question.

Englteachted:

Hence my rhetorical quuestion, why is that? Chinese lack backbones and don't stand up for themselves, if they did they're behavior would be much better because they'd have that understanding. My point is this, a lot of the mistreatment we get is born out of their unwillingness to stand up for themselves. Victims of bullies become bullies, they harass us because it is a way for them to lord themselves over someone the way they're lorded over.

It's 2 sides of the same coin.

Yes, actually.

And some even try it.

It just fails more often than not (some are going to be foolish enough to put up with it.). It's not really that much different to having an actual 'meeting', but all in Chinese, with no notes taken, and no translations offered... Many bosses will 'force' the FT to go to such meetings. (and threaten them with firing if they don't attend).

It's called a "flexible labour market". If someone is ready to step into your job at any given moment and you are completely replaceable then you will just have to put up with this sort of thing.

If you aren't replaceable and you are an integral part of how your boss makes money then the shoe is well and truly on the other foot. I completely fascinated my boss when I would refuse to do things that weren't in my contract. He'd never had a foreign worker before so he'd never experienced someone standing up for their rights. In a strange way I think he liked it.

RandallFlagg:

Similar-ish experience here. In a previous "college" (lol) i was once asked to narrate a video for new students. This sounded interesting so i agreed. Once i got there they said oh, no, actually we want you and other foreign teachers to make a stupid pose for the camera in front of a class of students who will gawk at you and take photos. I laughed in their face and told them to shove it (the other foreigners actually agreed to do it). They chased after me and apologised and after that they never asked me to do the stupid baby crap that the others did.

i have a friend here locally just received the teacher of the year award at his school and has to go to a ceremony. so now he has to change his ticket for friday the 30th to go home for new years on the train to saturday morning because he has to receive the award friday night at 8pm, if he says no, he is refusing an award, all the other teachers have to be there on a friday night instead of with their families so what's your problem, no win situation.

Shining_brow:

Depending on how much he likes his current job...

He could get someone else to accept the award on his behalf, with a nice acceptance speech including "because these useless fuckers couldn't be bothered to organise this well in advance, and NOT have this ceremony during what is well known to be a peak time for travel, I'm not here to receive it!"

Yeah, I remind you all, to bear this in mind, the next time you complain about something that seems miniscule. If you are trying to make a change, not only for yourself but your colleagues, you will be a legend.

However, if you are just complaining about little incidents and act like you are so hardly done by... you will contract the ire of pretty much all of your co-workers. They get it a lot rougher than you do.

I used to work at an international school and they would hold meetings once a week for the staff of one particular section. About 75% of the staff were Chinese and the rest were foreigners. We were to take turns conducting the meetings and creating talking points etc. The Chinese staff would always seem to take up our entire lunch period (yes, it was held during the lunch break). Finally, it was my turn. My meeting lasted 20 minutes.

I made a point to keep it short, productive and without wasted time. When it was concluded, a Chinese supervisor turned to me and said... "But this meeting was too short, we need to talk more." I told her we spoke of all main concerns and arrived upon adequate solutions... what else does she suggest we speak about... cats climbing trees? the pollution?

She looked around and saw that NOBODY was on her side and quickly conceded. After that meeting all the colleagues quickly thanked me for showcasing that a meeting does not require two hours. Chinese management, simply have meetings because they think the time used whilst in a meeting is "meaningful" or to show off their power.

Blondie_:

my first job was in an 'international school' where the meetings were also popularity contests, where all the Chinese teachers could vote for their 'favourite' teacher, including themselves.

The first sign of severe inferiority complex is when you have to flex your muscles in the most menial and pointless manner possible. Chinese do it all the time. Go figure, as our friends from the USA would say!
