I know this has been discussed countless times but I just want a fresh look into it...
I have lived in Wuhan for three years but hate the place, don't want to go back there.I also lived in an absolute crap small town in Shandong, never again! Im thinking of Shenzhen, what do people living there think of it?
Any other cities where life as a foreigner is good?
SZ is weird and huge, I just mean that it's like a really spread out congregation of places, so it's really hard to say if it's a good place to live or not. Longgang is a good two hours from Shekou and a pretty damn different vibe too.
some nice things about SZ:
proximity to HK
good climate (if u like hot and humid)
excellent Metro
can buy/find anything
biz opportunities out the yin/yang
kinda cool, modern vibe (the new Shanghai?)

Shenzhen is awesome due to the easy escape to Hong Kong
And what were your issues with Wuhan and the city in Shandong?

Mos Eisley on Tatooine. Be sure to visit the local cantina and tell them Solo referred you...
Wuxi is pretty good. Muh cleaner than any Chinese city I have been to and air pollution not bad by Chinese standards. It is a small, modern and efficient city with beautiful location next to Taihu lake and Huishan mountain, only 40 min by high speed train from Shanghai, 13 min to Suzhou

"air pollution not bad by Chinese standards"
Holy crap, that says a lot! Those few times I've done from NJ to SH through WX, the air totally sucked!!!

Yeah, I heard air quality in the New District is not good due to all the factories there, but downtown and along Taihu lake is pretty good.
If you are in your 20s to 30s, Shenzhen is the place to me IMHO. If you are older, you can still probably have fun there as well. Only bad points are the humidity and high temp.
When I was doing my internship in Macau earlier this year, I ended up spending a lot of time in Zhuhai (right on the other side of the border).
It's a really nice city, and quite cheap too. I could find pretty much all I needed, the people were kind, it's basically a "new" city in the sense that they're rapidly building a ton of brand-new buildings, malls, etc.
It'll probably end up sucking in a few years, but as of right now, it's great. It's the safe haven that prevented me from going insane in Macau.
The humidity might be the only negative point I can think of.
Xiamen- close to taiwan!
Chengdu- lots of expats love it, really relaxed city with lots of activities
Hangzhou- 30 or 45 mins train to shanghai
Suzhou- 30 mins to shanghai
Kunming! neither too hot nor too cold, throughout the whole year - where else can you have this?
pretty clean air too.
For me nothing beats Shenzhen with Hong Kong next to us. ( Hello, cheap airline tickets in HK.) But I heard Chengdu is rising and would be a great future for a young couple.
