Speaking of the twins, looks like it was "the other ones" day off. Only one was posting his crap last night. The other one has not been on for 3 days days...

Kind of an unGodly version of the Superman/Clark Kent phenomenon...

Twins ? did you clone them. Thought you can only have one kid,, will you have to give one away as a gift?................... I'm taking over for being king of triple posts, seems as soon as I started , the others stopped. I need one more topic.

Give them away? Are you joking? Do YOU want them? Well, neither does anyone else (Except Hugs, but that is because she is opening a fledgling Organ Harvesting business) but other than that nobody wants them. Nobody LIKES them and they bring out our inner troll...

Datong, the hanging temples on the cliffside.

woody:

I thought the hanging temple and the Yungan grottoes were both pretty cool. I also enjoyed the bus trip out of Wutaishan over the mountains on the way to the hanging temple was great. I am a railway engineer and I must say I am also in awe of some of the construction that has occured in building the new rail lines over some increadibly difficult terrain.

Since you voted for Guilin and not Yangshuo, that means you must not have been to Yangshou. Guilin doesn't come close to the beauty of Yangshuo even though Yangshuo is only a bout an hour away. If you go to Guilin again, take a river cruise to Yangshuo on the Li River. It is spectacular!

woody:

I loved the scenery along the cruise to Yangshuo and I would have like to explore and hang around in Yangshuo for a while but was unable to do so. Looked like a lot of interesting eateries and places to stay down near the river. What I hated about Yangshuo was a place that my Chinese friends said was one of it's highlights, a street called Western Street I think. Full of tacky touristy stuff and also had a bit of sleaze factor. While in Guilin went to some great caves, climbed some nice paths up some of the karst hills and went to this superb local theatre that put on a show of singing dancing clowns jugglers and acrobats that was far better than I expected.

What? You hated West Street? That place is awesome! It is such a crazy mix of sleeze and cheap but also awesome deals and real crafts. It is a fun place.

Actually, I found it a bit too "touristy". Its not bad once or twice a year, but more than that would be too much for me. But yes, you can have fun there, no doubt about it!

I would say one of the best things I've seen is very simple. There is a pair of birds living around this school. I've never seen that kind before, so it must be native to China. They're kind of big with long tails. I think one is male and one is female, because only one of them makes this really cool sound. They are often together. Once one even landed on my windowsill at my apartment! I only saw it for a second because I moved and I must have scared it. I was surprised because there aren't any trees near my window, but my apartment is close to the school, so I guess that's why. Sometimes I see them from my classroom as well.

Today I also saw this really cool caterpillar. I'm not sure what kind it is, but it must be for some kind of swallowtail or other big butterfly. It had green, blue and yellow stripes and those big fake eye spots. I think it was dying though, because it was on the ground and barely moving. There were several other ones that were a bit smaller. Maybe the wind knocked them out of the trees.

I also think it's cool that all the ponds in front of the main school building are filled with tadpoles. There are hundreds of them. The frogs are smaller here than back home (we have bullfrogs living around the pond in our yard) and they make a lot of noise at night. I can hear it as I walk back to my apartment at night.

Today while I was eating dinner, I noticed there was a swallow's nest at the place where I was eating and I could see there were 3-4 babies.

And the other night I saw some butterflies sleeping. They were just hanging on a bush at night.

Ok, maybe you won't think these sorts of things are amazing, but I do.

An elderly couple that live in my neighborhood.

The husband walking his crippled wife down the street, literally walking about 4 steps a minute. Holding her hand and patiently walking with her the whole time.

True love does exist in China.

Li river tour,', the ride was my favorite thing I've done, keep meaning to do it again. Terra Cotta Warriors didn't seem that much different than looking at the pics.
