Q: Bringing the original copy of your degree to China in order to get the residence permit?

I have my original College diploma but I lost the original TEFL certificate. I only still have the scanned version. Id really rather not have to bring anything, but i guess i could print out the scanned TEFL cert. Did you need these original documents to get your resident permit?

No, scanned copies are valid for Working permit and Foreign Expert Certificate at SAFEA.

Once, your Working permit is issued, you don't need to show your qualification docs. at PSB for RPermit.

ironman510:

Just to throw in an add on to yours: They don't need the educational doc's at the PSB because this is only need for the Labor Department.

I depends on what kind of residency. In my case, I had to prove some of my qualifications, and I had to show my original diploma or GTFO :(

ironman510:

How did they ask you to prove it? Besides bring in the Degree.

DrMonkey:

I asked my university a paper that says when I got my diploma, with a nice red stamp on it, and the official paper to show I defended my diploma. No matter how much paper I gave, the administration was always fussy and unsure. They can type my name on the web and see my publications list, but nooooooo...

I got my permit in Hangzhou with all scanned documents and not originals at all, but I guess it depends on luck.

ironman510:

It also depends on "when" some of us did this or applied for the RP. Because as we know the last 2 years now require us to bring the original doc's in with us.

I did it early this year, but I'm not a teacher so maybe the requirements are different.

It apparently varies.  I had to bring my original university diploma to apply for the Foreign Expert's Certificate.

In Shenzhen I needed it, but I was switching jobs at that time and already had a canceled FEC book, so they only glanced at it to make sure it was there but didn't do a black light inspection on the degree or my ESL certificates or internet lookup on it. You've got a 50%/50% chance. But if you are a new guy coming to Chine to work for the first time, they might do a Sherlock inspection on it and ask you to get the original (maybe).

I only provide scanned copies. All my documents Degree, HND  and CELTA are embossed with 'COPY ONLY serveral times in various places that would be difficult to reproduce. Any copy of passport n or any of the above supplied to agents will have several random numbers deleted, so no ID theft can take place, only if I visit a school or future employed will I show the original. I never let them out of my sight. And I do not allow other to hold onto them.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
