Hi Guys news from Ironman510 and brought to you by the DPRK, wishing you a happy 4th of July, anyway to the news:
New policy started last week:
If you are one of our sneaky friends working in China on a Biz visa or tourist, and you want to renew it in these locatrions:
1. Malayisa
2. Thailand, Bangkok & ChiangMai.
3. Vietnam
4. Taiwan
5. South Korea
6. Japan
Than don't waste your time trying, we got word that if you wanna renew your China visa for a new biz or tourist visa you'll need to stay there in one the countries listed above for 1 month, 1 whole month, thats ok for some, others not. Its up to you..
Solution: Go to your home country & renew.

Nearly everyone goes to Hong Kong anyway and thats not on the list.
Hotwater:
Yep but Hong Kong now doesn't issue long term tourist or business visa. 1 or 2 entry maybe but nothing more.
In fact I know a poster on this site who did it. First time got a double entry business visa (30 days stay each visit). Second time got rejected and had to fly home for one.

I'm also aware - through one of wife's friends hubby who's a big shot at the entry/exit at the port - they have been collecting data on the long term visa runners for an anticipated crackdown at some point in the future. Seems the government wants some tax from those who have been staying here but not contributing. The banks are in on the party too.
ironman510:
Hong Kong days are over, best best is a Q2 for family visits if you're married here
ironman510:
Hotwater is right and everyone should take note, no one can get a visa in HK anymore that's long term, you gotta have an HK ID, best is 3 months maybe, but but good luck
ironman510:
Just got it confirmed: Hong Kong can only give 30 day visa's
I have a friend from America who has a 10 year tourist visa.
He just has to hop over to HK every three months then back into China. Would the new laws affect him? I.e. Will he now have to go to HK every 30 days instead of every three months?
ironman510:
That's not a tourist visa, it's the new 10 year biz visa that Obama and Xi agreed on. No nothing will happen. The policy is for those trying to renew or get new biz or tourist visa's in another country. You're completely off topic with regards to your question.
Shining_brow:
Also, once you have the visa, the old rules should apply. This is for a NEW VISA APPLICATION.
Hotwater:
No. Read the OP again. It's talking about renewing visas, not visa runs.
What about fresh visa applications by letting current visa expire first? Any further updates to this. I have a q2 visa that expires in July
ironman510:
You should be able to go to HK and renew it or mail it to a visa agent, don't forget the invite letter from you spouse or family.
Thanks for your reply, it's double entry so if I exit then that visa is done. I can return back to UK and apply no problem but obviously its more convenient to go to HK or Korea etc
