Q: Can anyone explain how Weixin works?
I have heard this is a great way to study or chat in simple Chinese and improve, but I don't really understand how it works.
I think it's something about only being able to communicate with the people in a small perimeter?

Weixin is an app you download on your iphone and other smart phones. Once you've downloaded it, it automatically tells you which other contacts in your phone book are on Weixin and then you can easily add them. Once added, you can send voice messages, photos and text to your contacts free of charge. The only thing is you need to be connected to the internet to use it.
Weixin is great you can leave a voice message to your friends.

Weixin, now known as Wechat since it went international is a wonderful app for chatting with friends. Basically it is the Chinese alternative of Google Talk/Messenger/Voice, and a better app then any other of its kind, in my opinion. I only wish the Android version followed Android guidelines and didn't look like an iphone app. The fact I can easily communicate with friends using Android, Windows Phone 7, Symbian, and iphone is pretty awesome!
wei xin is also used to pick up girls as you can connect to a random person just by shaking your iphone, and it tells you where they are,

maybe you are using a phone that doesnt have this feature, i see my chinese friends use wei xin al the time, n the iphone and the ipod touch
