yes, you can apply to schools directly, but you have to decide through your own research where you want to work and the level you want to work in.
China is a very big country with thousands of public schools, universities and private training schools.
it is up to you now to make decisions.
This forum is not a jobs board and people are not going to be doing the leg-work for you.
1) decide on a province/city you want to work in.
2) decide what level you want to work at.
3) research the schools in your chosen area
4) contact the schools yourself
5) do your due diligence before accepting an offer
6) good luck
Yes, you can.
Google schools in the cities you are interested in and apply through their websites.

a lot of schools will use a recruitment company/visa agent.
As Blondie said, we're not going to do the legwork for you!
I'd also like to ask - what are you intending to teach??
You can, but a lot of schools including the better ones would rather use an agent for legal reasons, kind of like when you want to rent a flat, the landlord will use an agent even if you go directly to him.
The problem in China is not agents but illegal agents. While some companies are registered to legally act as recruiting offices, most aren't and are only in for the quick buck without care for the long term consequences.
Legitimate agencies won't screw you over because their office address can be found easily and you can sue the hell out of them, illegitimate agents can't be traced, they often use fake names sur as "John Ma" or "Lisa Tang", and yes they are all Chinese.
Legitimate agencies will not take a cut from your salary nor ask you to pay anything, they will take a one time commission from the school for their services. If an agency asks you to pay anything, then they are illegal.

One name - Helen's ESL.
"Legitimate" agent screwing teachers over for... I think over a decade!

To be a legitimate recruiter, Helen's ESL needs a registered office address, if she has one then it should be easy for any grumpy Foreigner with half a brain to sue the hell out of them, or even to raid their office. If no one does and the cycle continues, they can only blame themselves.
I for one have my office address and business license number listed on my company's website, anyone is welcome to take me to the court, but it never happened because I don't cheat people.
