I've seen this question before almost the same. Let me see if I can dig it up .. .from the users I can narrow it down to a couple of possibilities to who wrote this. Anyways, yes you can live off of 10 k rmb a month! (!
Come on now, tell us the truth. You made this up, didn't you?
No why?. You will need to spend more than that for recreation.
dont believe your offer , ask who the previous teacher was and talk to them and verify their credentials. nothing is real in china, even contracts.
100rmb daily for McD's is 3000rmb per month, If you change sometimes for some n ice pizza , you may end up at 4000-5000rmb monthly. Nothing else here you can call western food, so it is your take ... If you buy 200grams of butter for 30rmb plus 1 bread loaf for 25, it is about another 300 for one week...

I have to disagree with that. Stores like Jenny Lou and Aprils are packed with western foods/ingredients. You just have to make it yourself. A few good American burger/bbq places in Beijing as well. Overall there's not much, but it's certainly more than just crap fast food.

Yep, I know there is a bit. Here in Shanghai, JingQiao Carefour can serve me with almost everything i like. Just the prices are horrible. Anyway, I am buying 2,5kg bag of bread flour for 50rmb, got an oven enough big to put nice loaf of bread to bake there at least once a week.
Why is everyone saying this hard to believe? Are you guys saying the pay is too high?
26,000 rmb after taxes ??? If it's true you just hit the jackpot. I've personally never seen any teaching jobs offering that match unless it's a highly skilled trade in a university (think computer science for example).
To answer the question.... yes 10,00rmb is enough but it really depends where you want to live and how much you want to pay for rent, do you want to eat out or cook, are you single ? etc etc.
