I have a Z visa, but I really don't like my company and would like to work elsewhere. I want to know that if I leave my current company, can they do anything to cancel or affect my legal status in China?

Z visa get converted to Residence permit in 30 days after you enter China.
You must find new Residence permit sponsor, before you leave your current sponsor. New Co. will extend your RP in 30 days, after you'll quit.
If you don't have new Residence permit sponsor, your old Co. can cancel RP.
Yes, the most immediate inconvenience they can cause you is not issuing a letter or certificate stating that either you have satisfactorily completed your contract or that you have left on satisfactory terms. That will be asked for when your next employer applies for a residence permit.
Your current employer should also notify the authorities that you have left your existing place of work. The current RP and WP/FEC that you hold is employer specific and should be nullified when you leave.
Yes you will lose it, must start over, get your resident permit first, then in a month or two leave nicely, if that's possible.
Hi,
I have a similar query, I'd be grateful for any helpful suggestions since this is my first job in the mainland:
Is the school required to pay for the (1) Working Visa (2) Medical health checkup (3) Residence permit, OR, it is the responsibility of the employee? So far I have been asked to pay for all 3, and having joined the job already, I dint have a choice.
If I want to change my job, I would give them 30 days notice, however I don't understand what a resident permit sponsor has to do it in this case if I am the one who paid for my residence permit? Does the residence permit sponsor mean that my stay in China is tied to an employer?

You are tied to your RP sponsor (School). You cannot 'legally' work anywhere else, but at your RP sponsor.
I am not sure about 'School required to pay RP cost', but I've never paid it myself. It was always covered by School.
After you submit Resignation notice, you should have new employer, who will 'extend' (take over sponsorship of RP).
I literally walked off a job in Ningjin County because of the bad air quality. Coming from a small island where the air is always fresh and clean, it was a huge culture shock to find that people are living in such unhealthy environment. I guess the constant smell of human defecation and the high smog air quality finally got to my brain after forty-five days of living in it. Before I knew it, my ass was on the train back to an environment that did not restrict my respiratory system. Now I am enjoying the smell of autumn air, scented trees, baked goods and fruit shops...and my stress level have jumped tenfold. The recruiting company said they have black listed me and I will not be able to work in China again. I am staying with friends, I have no money and my plane ticket expires. Of course, they never reimbursed me for the trip to China as they said they would, and they never paid for my visa as they said they would. its almost three weeks now...what to do?
icnif77:
1. Submit Resignation notice to the School (or SAFEA); You should write reason(s) for the Contract termination.
2. Get new employer, who must be authorized to hire FT;
3. Old employer must submit Release letter, and other documents necessary for RP extension to FT (or new employer) in 30 days, after your last working day (Chinese Law).
'as they said'???? If it's written in your Contract, 'you'll be reimbursed for air ticket ' (at your Contract expiration probably), School must pay for your ticket. However, if somebody told you, you'll get refund….I don't think, that counts.Iron_Monkey:
I think you forfeited everything when you got on the train.
nope,if your resident permit is still valid. During your valid resident permit, you can re-apply the work permit and resident permit under new company.
if your resident permit is expired, then you have to leave china and find another visa back to China.
