Q: Can you call police if neighbors make noise late at night?

Some of my neighbors make much noise after 11 p.m. (during week) I have trouble falling sleep. Is it ok call police or authorities? Is it against law make noise late at night?

Here in China people do not respect their neighbors. There is always noise at night especially firecrackers. You are on your own.

Noise is a way of life here. Get some earplugs.

People used to call the police on me and my room mates ALL THE TIME for noise complaints. But that might just be a matter of knowing the right people. Which we obviously didn't.

"If you have a connection" or willing to offer some money, smokes or alcohol....nice to see that the upsatnding law in this country really puts its "Harmonious" thoughts first eh....forget calling them for anything, they are a waste of time and even if they do turn up, will probably not do anything anyway.

Yeah, u can call the police...

But what I did, just yelled from my window, told them to shut up... It's not totally quiet now, but it's surely much better, as long as I can fall asleep...

So, talk to them first, if that doesn't help, u don't have other choice but call the police...

Just go and knock your neighbour´s door and politely tell them that you need to sleep. Police "should" be busy with really important things and not this...

Your chances to get them to shut up by knocking on their door loudly and yell angrily in their faces are about 200% higher.

A:I have mixed feelings about that term, because obviously it's used by shitty people to paint us all, but the concept isn't manufactured out of whole cloth either. I dont worry about what xenophobic local losers think, but between other expats I apply that term to people with shitty attitudes and grand delusions. It does NOT apply to somebody who actually makes it here. It's NOT the dude who had a shitty or no job and no luck with women in the west who comes here, does OK with teaching or whatever works his ass off gets married starts a family etc and carries himself like a respectable person. Even though he might have been considered a 'loser' before, i wouldnt call him an LBH cause he used China's opportunity to get his shit together. That guy is no longer a loser by any definition so whats it matter what he was before? The key word of LBH is 'loser'...meaning they continue to be a loser. The LBH is the guy or girl who can't hold down a decent job or functional relationships here either...but who enjoys and relishes in the sort of elevated foreigner status and the attention they can get without any effort. The person with the terrible attitude who manages to keep squeaking by because there is always a ESL school desperate enough to hire them. And yet they maintain a grandiose superior attitude. I guess it's the difference between an opportunity loser and a personality loser. The first guy was probably itching to go his whole life just had nothing interesting come along and maybe not tons of ambition. But he moved to China and became who he always was...a solid hardworking dude. But the personality loser is a "wherever you go there you are" kind of loser. There isn't a situation in the world they could thrive in because the problem is they can't get on with people. But in china they get a certain narcissistic validation from all the attention. -- expatlife26
