Are you kidding, I can't ask him how is day is without wanting him to put it in writing. Though we all know even having something in writing doesn't mean squat here.

You have to wonder why their not ashamed of themselves. They hate to be called untrustworthy, but they participate in untrustworthy behaviours. What the hell do they want?

It depends...

I've noticed that in smaller cities, the people have integrity and can usually be trusted to take care of you. In bigger cities, I wouldn't count on it. They'll "take care of you" as long as it somehow suits their interests/bank accounts.

Whenever I get to have to trust anyone in China, I first take a very close look at all the potential leverage I have and might need on my side, and never involve anything I can not afford to lose completely in the process of trusting. This is a general rule to be followed in all sorts of situations (professionnal, economic, personnal, you name it) to stay away from big trouble.

Robk:

Yes, exactly. Chinese will only see you as a marketing device.. Any choice you make that makes it harder for them to get business and not take advantage of you in some way will just piss them off.

In China, IT IS A POPULARITY CONTEST, if the students love you... then you are golden until you tell the employer "You are wrong!" Then it is all over! Their HUGE EGO will jump in and screw you over. It's a delicate things, but you can manipulate them before they manipulate you... if you know how the game is played here.

You would have to counter this question with another series of simple questions.

Does your employer need YOU (you being a single person not a group of foreigners) to successfully continue his business?

Do you help to bring in more business (besides JUST teaching English)?

Do you suck up to your boss and feed their ego to gain face?

If you answered no to two or more of these, trusting your employer to look out for you interests would be a HUGE MISTAKE.

Don't even try arguing, your voice will be drowned out by the sound of a cash register opening and closing. That's all they really hear... besides the voice in their head saying "You are a great person, everyone else sucks!"

NOp. The last school I was in was too scared to give me their mailing address. I wanted to mail clothing from my home in Beihai too the school in Tai'an.  They are consistently late with pay and will not honor everything in the contract they agreed to.  This is why I don't trust them. But as long as I get paid, I will work.  But I am wondering if my FEC is for real.

Regular Government schools usually can be trusted.  It is the private schools and the recruiters who scam not only the FTs, but the Chinese people as well.  That has been my observation.

DrMonkey:

Amen to that. I worked 3 years in a public university. They always paid on time, they stick to the contract, and my bosses really showed some human care for me and my work. Private is way more treacherous.

He's not Chinese but still; he's a low-down, good for nothing, double dealing, conniving, sneak-thief, snake in the grass, back stabbing, two faced, swindler.

But i'm self-employed so there's no leaving the bastard.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
