I've finished my contract with my school but my resident permit is still valid for another six months. My new school is doing everything to transfer my visa as soon but my previous school is threatening me to cancel my resident permit. Can they actually do that without my passport because my new employer tells they can't.

They need your passport to do that.
Towers:
thanks a lot, do you happen to know if this is the case in every province 'coz i know the laws are sometimes different.

Why would PSB grant RP longer than validity of the Contract?
icnif77:
It never happened to me in 5Y, PSB would grant RP longer than the Contract validity.
Towers:
My God! not everything happened to you? Well, it happened to me!
Towers:
And the question is not that, the question is can they do it without my passport considering they gave me recommendation letter, cancelation of FEC, release, bonus and so on without my passport?
icnif77:
This is the first time I read such a thing. I'm looking forward somebody else prove me wrong.
If you get new job, school must change 'employer data' at PSB, but they won't touch your RP. You'll be required to return to PSB a week or two before the expiration. Then, after school will present new Contract, PSB will extend your RP till the validity of new Contract.
If you don't get new employer/RP sponsor, PSB will grant you 30-days RP extension, and you must exit China before the end of RP extension.

Great! can someone give me a useful answer, icnif knows evrything and for the record he's a guy who broke his contract because his school didn't pay for his 50 yuan internet bill, so now thanks icnif, conversation with you is over.
@icniff77: only because the school wanted to make me sign a 6-months contract and I complained because i didn't want want to go through the whole process of visa every six month so they applied for a year one. Does that answer your question?
Because you never answer mine, icnif answers questions by asking questions, weird...
@erik: thanks to have answered my question.
icnif77:
PSB won't grant RP longer than the Contract (expiration). School must present signed Contract at PSB for RP.
Your PSB might be different.
Towers:
you know you're tiring!
They gave me a year RP thinking i would renew after six months, only In didn't considering the fungus, smell of dogs, mold etc in the apartment ok?
You don't even know what the schools can do when they've known PSB for years, whatever they want!
Spiderboenz:
@icnif77 Not true. My RP expires a month after my contract ends.
icnif77:
A month longer is probably because of avoiding 30-days mandatory extension at the end of RP.
I've never heard 'I completed the Contract' & 'I still have 6m valid RP'. That's new!
Towers:
That's new to you but why would I bother writing a post and ask a genuine question if it wasn't genuine?
Unlike you I have better things to do so either you answer or don't your suspicion is pointless.
