Q: Capital Punishment rescinded?

A young university student (Han, 23, Female, Guangdong) I know swears up & down that Capital Punishment has now been rescinded in the PRC.

Did I miss something?  Wouldn't this have been huge international news?

No, it has not been rescinded.

I just asked one of my Police friends. "So what?" you say?

He happens to be an executioner.

Said it is alive and well (though not in those words).

Remind me not to mess with you. Or him.

Wow, like a young 23 year old would really know what's going on. I doubt she knows and is trying to stir something up. I would keep my eye on her if I were you. Swearing is not a good thing!

A few months ago, a few crimes that previously held the death penalty were taken off those books. Oddly enough, they were mostly white collar crimes (ie, bribery etc) - some of the ones that, IMPO, think should have remained on the books.
