Q: CBC ( Criminal Background Check )
I understand that this subject has been discussed at length on here, I just thought it would be a good idea to try and gather all the pertinent information and questions regarding in one string. Unfortunately I cannot really kick things off with any solid information, I'll just mention what I heard from an ex-colleague yesterday. He was not required to show that document for his recent Z application ( location: Guangzhou, nationality: Asian, length in china: few years, renewal: I'm not certain if or if the first he's ever done ).
So, like most of us have heard the requirement jumps around a lot based on numerous factors. I must admit I'm confused and have told three potential employers that they must handle it for me or, as Arnold would say - 'hasta la vista, baby '
Any info / questions anyone wants to share might be useful to us all. Xiexie.

I'm in Nanjing, maybe other cities are different, but...
If you're staying in the same city, then there is no need for a CBC. If you move to a new city, you need one from the last place you lived for the past year. So if you've been working in PRC for over a year, it needs to be from the city in PRC. If you have not... it needs to be from the last country you were living in. As for being "authenticated" or notarized... that, I have no information on.

My advice is this, if you're American, get your FBI background check while you're visiting back home. Arrange to have the results sent to a third party agency that provides authentication services. And after it's authenticated it'll be ready for you to use when it's time to look for a job.
In addition get a background check in the city where you're working now 4 months before leaving.

Just like a passport photo, the CRC is supposed to have been completed within the past 6 months.
Stupid, I know, but that's PRC for you.

I was too drunk to post details, you can get the prints done while home and then send them to the FBI while back in China, it's almost impossible getting prints done in China
My big question of the day is -
Does anyone know of an honest, reliable agency providing this service here in China? I really don't wanna spend umpteen thousand (flights, hotels, services) chasing this thing down in the States.

I've said this before but no one listens, there are American agencies. Chinese will charge you double
US Authentications, google them
I'm not American but a colleague who had similar issues used this company in China http://www.tyfy-business.com/
The website is all in Chinese but they can communicate in English if you contact them.
However as he had already been in China for several years, a locally obtained one from his last city of residence was accepted. This is in Jiangsu.

How do Chinese companies do this? They charge you double make phony promises and hire the same American company you could've hired directly.
The rule of thumb for the new immigration platform is this.. for renewals (CURRENTLY) only authentications of diploma/TEFL will be required. If you switch employer? then both diploma and CBC will be required. Each region in China are implementing different interpretations of whats needed for CBC.. I've seen teachers who have been here for over 10 years and are still requested to provide home country background checks. Typically a Chinese background check would only be needed for a country OUTSIDE of China, as its very easy for the school you work for to tap into a local police report..
