You bet! China has long struggled with water shortages, especially in the north, where precipitation is generally low and the rate of desertification high. One major factor behind the water shortages is that China is home to 20% of the world's population but only 7% of the world's water. It's long been public knowledge that most of China's rivers have or are in the process of drying up, which is having a catastrphic knock-on effect on crops and people's livelihoods. I've included a link to an interesting article about this. People concerned about the environment in China should also read chinadialogue.net becaue it deals with all of China's major environmental challenges. We all really need to do our part to conserve water! Shock
