Q: Chinese Blackwater, what for, really?

https://qz.com/957704/the-american-mercenary-behind-blackwater-is-helping-china-establish-the-new-silk-road/

Yeah, right, you need Blackwater to 'help establish the one-belt-one-road'.  What exactly is this 'road' being used for?

OBOR heavily relies on the assumption of political stability in the neighboring regions of China and completely ignores or disregards the actual situation. Myanmar had a revolution 5 years ago and is still unstable, Thailand is a powder stack exploding every few months. China has an idea and wants to have it done regardless of obstacles. Because it only takes one executive order to take back everything that China has invested in these countries. It's already a failed project when they need PMCs to enforce and maintain said stability,

A quick search shows the above story is turning up in a few places.

An interesting article from last year:

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/mar/24/erik-prince-former-black...

Money laundering is suspected.

This is what I think they call the swamp.

Eric  Prince is the brother of Betsy DeVos, who bought herself into Trumps cabinet.  This is nothing more than good old corruption. No different from Kutchners sister flogging American Visas, or Clinton's foundation getting donations for access.

China is trying to do business in hostile areas, trade routes, trains, ports, etc to get products to non hostile areas like Europe.

It's not going to work for several reasons, using Chinese labor and not local labor is probably the biggest mistake aside from regional tensions, religions, and other problems.

China is not going to get smart Chinese business people to deal in these areas without assurances of safety and security and their military can't do the job. Chinese workers and managers are killed all over Africa frequently and getting through the Muslim countries with roads and trains is not going to happen peacefully, if it happens if at all, so having mercenaries guarding their workers and managers is the only way they can get people to do this, sort of stupid when their workforce at home is shrinking and the manufacturing base is shrinking and domesitic welfare costs of an aging population is going to shrink their ambitious plans but maybe they believe they can do anything, whatever, I certainly will be sending them my resume as long as they pay cash and don't make me eat their lousy food.

A:  It depends on which part of the lake region you want to visit. Most start from NanChang, the shortest distance to the lake is about 30km  and 186km to the government run wetland park, marked by the hut shape symbol on the upper right corner of the map below

October is too early to see the migratory Siberian cranes. November onwards is better, their number peaking in between December and January. The dry season lasts from Sept to April.

Here are some photos taken by a retired local during his self-drive tour of Poyang Lake, dating Oct. 17, 2016. Those birds in the photos are reared by the locals, most likely for tourists' benefits. https://www.mafengwo.cn/i/7787641.html Maps and photos from a local who did a one day tour of the area, in December 2016. http://www.mafengwo.cn/i/6487139.html?static_url=true -- earthizen
