Q: Is the Chinese version of google incredibly moronic or are some Chinese people just lazy?

e.g. Why do they still think that the only English speaking countries in the world are the US, Canada, Australia and Britian? I mean anywhere else in the world you'd just go on google and get the answer if you weren't sure.

So are they just dumb or lazy?

Yes, i've made some sweeping generalisations, by "they" in this example i'm obviously referring to the thousands of schools which post ads for English teachers and then say dumb stuff like "native speakers from blah blah blah"

well its reflect the poor knowledge of chinese, they believe they are the center of the world "中“ means middle, therefore 中国, i might be a bad translator, but chinese translation does not mean middle at all....
i come from a previously colonized island by dutch, french and british... so i have a broader perspective about language...chinese believe that only native speakers can speak and teach correct english, but that's not true, its just cultural influence... i bet those dumb 'chinglish' speakers cannot understand a single british expression or old english!

don't bother youself, it does not help at all... just find another job... you have lot of opportunities here

Lol, good point bigkrishna! I have some friends here who teach English, who are not "native" speakers at all and who's level of spoken English is in fact quite poor, but because they look like "native" speakers they get teaching jobs. I'm not a teacher myself, i'm in finance, that was just an illustration for the "Chinese Google" question :)

Google is the same everywhere in the world, but it's constantly "slowed" here in China.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  This is done intentionally due to sometimes poor relations between China ad Google, and also as a favor to the craptastic Chinese search engines like Baidu.  Most of the Chinese search engines (like  Baidu) do NOT feature organic search results.  Most every result on the first page is a paid for placement so when you use them to search, you're not really getting results based on web content but paid advertisements.

Also keep in mind that because there is a lot of content restrictions and blocked websites, simply "Googling" something often doesn't provide answers as well as it would in other countries.

It isn't so much the english speakers they desire... it's the accents of those particular countries. They prefer them and believe that those particular accents are more... generic, meaning anyone who speaks English can understand someone from any of those countries.

That's how it was explained to me, anyway.
