Q: Chinese wife and foreigner emigrating to a 3rd country.........? Requirements?

Does anyone have any information about visa requirements and the entire process of an American and Chinese wife emigrating to say "Thailand" a non-native country for both parties.  What's the process?  If I were to get an ESL position would my wife also need a work permit?  Are there financial requirements?  Thanks in advance.

That would depend on the target country. Some countries if you are married then you both have the same requirements, but other countries you and your wife may have different requirements even though you are married.

Sounds like a cop out answer, but your best bet is to check with the Embassy of the target country and find out what the requirements are and if they are different if you are married.

Best of luck!

If you got an ESL job and visa, don't know why you couldn't take your wife. It's easier for an American to get into Thailand than a Chinese. Many countries have no visa requirements for Americans, while requiring them for Chinese..

Actually, you are able to take your wife to Thailand if you apply for a job and successfully gain the correct work and resident visa, this however will require some steps for you. If you actually want to use the term emigrate, you will need 600,000 US dollars in the bank and it will be invested in Thailand, at that time you would need to provide paper work showing that you are capable of living in Thailand being financially stable until the investment money is given back to year after 6 to 10 years with interest. Thailand does not give rights for foreigners to own land or houses so you'll have to rent unless you actually want to become Thai. If you do the investment visa, much like HK and SK your family receives the same visa's that you would have.

If you are only wanting to live and work there, this will require you to fly home, difference is your degree will have to be apostiled by an appropriate authority and then taken to the Thai embassy, this will allow your spouse to travel with you, but your  marriage certificate must be translated into Thai and notarized in China.

Anymore information you can message me, but after that you would need to come into my office but, it's not free

You have to specify the country. If it is Thailand, then search for the rules from Thailand.

The rules varies a lot from country to country.

I (European) live in the UAE with my Chinese wife and here I can "sponsor" her when I have a job, so it is very easy.

I didn't mean to scare anyone, the anonymous writer mentioned the word emigrate, which would lead to immigration. But, in order to emigrate to most countries and be a holder of a perm. resident card or green card, you have to invest a substantial amount into their economy. To just hope to be able to run from it all and just jump to a different country thinking the grass is greener on the other side is usually a thought of someone who usually isn't financially capable. I got three things from this post,

1.) Tired of China, but has no money to immigrate his wife to America, which would need a sponser with enough money to have them as a sponser

2.) Doesn't like the fact of his home country and is not only running from China but also his home country

3.) Doesn't need to be married if he actually wants to reside in Thailand
