Q: A company wants to fake a degree for me.....

Hi,

So basically i'm living in Shanghai with my wife who is Shanghainese and our son.  My wife is working so we aren't desperate for money or anything however her friend has offered me a job teaching English at the company she works for.  They are a very large company, lot's of schools but have a problem filling a vacancy at one of them due to it's location being away from the underground.  I have tutoring experience and I am qualified in tutoring and through a 150 hour TEFL course which included both classroom and online study.

She has offered to apply for a work visa for me using a photoshopped degree (I never finished University due to my wife getting pregnant), which both her and my wife claim isn't unusual here.

Obviously though both my wife and I are slightly wary as it could affect our spouse visa and whether I can stay in the country if I am caught.  She wants me to start work before the visa comes through so that's over a months work without a visa.

Any thoughts?

You obviously know the risks involved so i say go for it. Without a degree youll never be able to get a Z visa so what will you do to support your family? Even if you get kicked out ....well you guys are going to have to leave eventually anyways if you dont work. Unless your wife is rich enough to support you indefinatly.

1 the fake degree.
It is super common in China. From government officials to big CEO,s many many many have fake credentials. As for getting caught. Anything in possible but i doubt it. Ive known friends that got away with it and many people here have posted about it. I cant remember anyone posting about getting caught. Maybe im wrong.

As fir working for a month without the visa. I also say go for it. Its just a month so chances are small, plus if there is a surprise insoection , from my personal experience, showing that you have applied all the paperwork and are just waiting should be fine.

Its not the best situation but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Well we aren't exactly rich but she earns enough that we don't struggle to pay the bills. The extra money would definitely be helpful when it comes to things like going on holiday back to the UK and things like that though, i'll probably have a think about it.  It seems that the vast majority of times the Chinese don't actually check the documents but my luck has always been awful!

I agree with Mike, you'll be fin, just want to add that I would be very loyal and willing to go the extra mile. Put that in back of your mind. And stay in that school until they let you go. You'll have more chances in the future.

Yeah, go for it. I am sure you don't like the thought of your wife brining in all the money and the thing is... it is NOT your fault.

China has retarded laws that say you can't legally work under a spousal visa... so then what should you do? Well, you have to break the law more or less or find another way like getting a Z visa and working.

If they catch you, offer to bribe them and explain that you have a family here and can't legally work on a spousal visa, how are you suppose to support your family? Really rub in the sympathy vote and make them feel guilty for it. Manipulate their emotions and then seal the deal with a bribe and you will get out of it.

Good luck!
