Q: Copyright and the Illusion of China

I just got done reading this article about the recent copyright conference being held in Beijing.  Here is the link if you are interested:

I was thinking about how hypocritical it is to just hold the conference, get rid of some "labels" and items for one day and then bring them on back in as soon as the conference is over.  Why are so many things in China like this such an illusion?  I feel as if as soon as you point out common sense at times, people get so offended instead of just thinking, "hmmm, that might be something to work on".  Any thoughts?  By the way, I'm not complaining, I'm genuinely curious.

Its all about money.  Plain and simple.  If they actually start paying attention to copyright law, then they will have to stop production on items that make them money.  Why would anyone give up something that makes them money just because someone else says, it is against the rules.

Right now it costs more to be genuinely innovative and create unique products.  First, there is the R&D costs, then the patent costs, etc...  And after following all the steps needed to bring a product to market, it may still fail costing millions.  And if it succeeds, then they will lose market share to all the people copying their product who don't have to worry about recouping all of the initial R&D costs.

Until it actually costs them more to break the law rather than follow it, they will continue on, business as usual.

Have you seen Yashow in the past few days? It's almost empty, much like what happened a few years ago. Big conference and crackdown on fakes, bla bla bla, wait for 2 weeks, tadaaa it's all back to normal. Like everything.
