1.does anyone know about online Tefl courses (doing a degree in about 6 months)
2.does anyone know about giving up your passport and becoming Chinese?
You don't get an online degree in 6 months. You're looking at 3-4 years minimum of study. Icnif's link is for certificates. An online degree will cost you a lot of money as well. Unfortunately this is something you should have done over your last 16 years of working here.
You'll also never ever get a Chinese passport.
I can understand what you're trying to do but it's a bit late. Sorry this is a blunt reply.

Degree in TEFL? I see now ... mine is only TEFL cert., which is good for Z beside 'degree' for some 300 UK £.
They guarantee job to Native English test takers.
Search 'TESOL' in Yahoo-gle for the degree in TEFL.

I get it I should have done something over the 16 years (in my 17th year now)
Stiggs:
You might just need to bite the bullet and start an online degree Rob. Or figure out a way around it.
Hotwater is right, you're looking at four years but if you need the thing then what can you do? The need for it isn't going to go away.
RobRocks:
maybe I will start with a doing tefl cert finish that then go from there
Hotwater:
Icnif, you're right that a certificate is okay if you have a degree. Rob doesn't...so he needs to do a degree.
Rob, if you're going for an online degree then an education related one could be good for you if you plan to stay teaching Kindy
RobRocks:
I just checked out this http://verifiabledegree.com/
Its looks legit,Is it legit this might be the way to gobiggj123:
@Rob,... Man I dont know, i only heard through post online. Could be bullshitt. I don't know if I would try that or not. It looks legit, but I cant see how it is.
Don't give up your passport Rob.
It has been talked about before, on this forum I think so you should be able to dig it up if you look but the general consensus ( assuming it's doable)seems to be that it drastically limits your options in life and doesn't really have any benefits.
dom87:
well it certainly has the benefit of not needing a visa, which I guess he would be up to.
But yeah, actually I think it is not really possible and only very very few people achieved this (wouldn't call it an achievement though)
Stiggs:
True, but he would need a visa if he ever decided to visit home again, or pretty much any country really.
RobRocks:
cant do it anyway need a green card 1st,and then to get a green card you need to have 200,000 in a fixed bank account for 1 year while the application is being done.
dom87:
200,000 RMB doesn't sound like a huge number though.
But I think getting a green card is not only about the money, but something about top tier talent or some bs
RobRocks:
200,000 is a lot of money if you dont have that kind of money,My wife and I are not rich
icnif77:
It is easier to save 200k RMB in China than anywhere in the West.
Single person with 12k/month (100 classes) and free apartment. I could save it in some year and half - two years tops.
That's why I agree with above as it isn't too big sum of money.
I do hope your not going to give up your Canadian Passport. You should check info about your OAS and CPP (pension) before doing that. I can't remember if your married, but my Chinese wife has a PR card. I just got a super visa. Or maybe we are jumping the gun: are you asking question 2 for someone else. This raises an interesting question: Could a Canadian give up Canadian citizenship for a Chinese passport, and then get a Permanent Residence status in Canada?

Most online TEFL certifications aren't worth crap - except to countries or institutions that don't give that crap! (granted, there are a LOT of class certifications that aren't worth that crap either!)
Register a business in China, with yourself as director... as long as the business is going, you get to stay under a WP. Relatively pain-free (in comparison).
As for what online courses you can do, CELTA is considered the best short TEFL course, and can be done online! It's probably more expensive than any other, but at least it has the reputation!
Shining_brow:
You'll obviously need some capital (but shouldn't be TOO much... I hear 25,000RMB is enough, but that's for a a consulting company) and pay someone to do the business registration... but basically - you're starting your own company here.
If you want to be slightly more legit, go for an import/export business - and try to make some money that way... if you can! It'll cost you more to start up though.
With all of this, your company employs you - so you get yourself a work permit for the duration of the company.
Stiggs:
Shining, that's interesting.. do you know if it would be legal to teach on that work visa or would it just allow you to live there and do work related to the business?
Shining_brow:
legally - only do the work that is allowed on the visa - which must be fully stipulated (ie, when forming the company, a FULL write-up of business activities must be included).
If you started a consulting company, be very careful you don't piss people off if you're also teaching... otherwise, that hazy line might suddenly get very clear (and not in your favour).
