According to what I have learned, for one to qualify for a Visa (Z Visa?) to teach English in China you need to be 24 years old, Bachelors degree or above (any subject) and 2 year working experience. Should the work experience be in teaching English or can it be in the line of work you are?
My situation: I am 24 years old from South Africa (native English) with a Masters degree in Architect (design) and have 2 years part time and 1 year full time work experience in Architecture. The only teaching experience I have it private extra maths classes I gave to high school kids.
Question: What is my chance of getting a legal job and Visa to teach English in China?
Any light on this subject will be greatly appreciated

Try a design school such as Raffles. They are more in-line with what you are looking for and are experienced in.
Ans: incredibly easy (if you're a white Sth African. Much harder if not)

Thank you. The Math extra classes were only private work, not official work that can be placed on my CV though (sort of helping out some family friend's kids etc)? What is the 2 years working experience all about?
First of all, good luck in your search
you have a very good chance of getting a legal job as long as you continue to apply.
this is the time of year public schools are beginning to recruit for the next semester.
please be aware that the level of students you are most likely going to encounter here will be for the most part will be TOTALLY different from those you have taught before.
Usually the school would prefer that you had the experience but often many schools just want whitey in the classroom and money in their pocket. The two year requirement is to get a visa (government guidelines).
In short - lie. I got a job literally a month before these rules came into effect about 5 or 6 years ago (yes - bad memory) so the next year I didn't meet the requirements. So they had me lie on my resume and sent it in - and magically it worked.
Hey L.L,
I'm South African too, although in this case it doesn't really matter because the rules are the same no matter where you are from. Ya, if you're of age and have the two years experience then it shouldn't be a problem. Where you going to be based?
L.L:
Thank you all for the feedback. So it does not really matter what working experience you have (according to the government guidelines)? As long as you have 2 years working experience?
I am not totally sure about the location yet. At this stage it looks like Wuhan...?
Any thoughts on choosing a location in China?
