When I read Q, I search GOOG to see, where do they celebrate 120. There was only 'Liverpool FC' thingy. Nothing else! Next day, 5 web links on China, and 6th one was UK link. It looks, Great Wall 'hide' all comments about Mao on that day.

Yes, I was invited to a reception for all of the foreigners in the city where I lived by the Powers-that-Be.  It was a lovely, lovely reception, with a very large-and-well-done picture of the persons whose day was being commemorated surrounded by a sea of red poinsettias.  There was a cocktail reception followed by a sit-down dinner.  I would say that of all of the foreigners invited, probably close to 90% came, often with spouses in tow.  A traditional Chinese orchestra played revolutionary songs on traditional Chinese instruments.  The speeches and the baiju flowed. The dinner was about 8 different courses served by waiters and waitresses.

A grand event.

Actually, no Paul, I'm not one of your friends so I know nothing about things like that.

I did dream, however, that you are a transvestite in your spare time and that you turn tricks as such.  Only a dream mind you...

how can someone be a transvestite in their "spare time?"  i'm pretty sure that's a choice you make 100% of the time.  that being said... merry christmas

Lessee... What happened 120 years ago? Oh yeah...

Thomas Edison filmed the first movie close-up - of a sneeze - in his movie studio (the world's first) in New Jersey.

Celebrated that, But in February. Still count? crying

I did not see any commemoration (I live extreme suburbia of 1st tier) and I bet 90% of the populace would give one a blank look if queried about the significance of today's date.  Just like asking my fellow countrymen to commemorate the birth-date of Gen. Washington.  These things just do not translate well among the general populace, and why should they?  Did Uncle M really help things?  Most people I have spoken with seem in agreement that he did not. Funny that he is seemingly as revered as he is.  I suppose it is just a case of propping up an 'icon' and not looking into the reality behind said icon.

The town of Xiangtan is to spend 15 billion RMB on stuff in celebration of the great helmsman 120th anniversary. So much for Xi Jinpings policy of spending public funds with caution. Frugality my ass.
