Welcome back Mark
care to say anything directly to me ?
Yes but inly recently and if the Chinese head teacher hates you...... You have had it....even if the kid runs away...you get the blame,
blame the Laowai! Easy ....
I really have had enough of the crap they tell here. Basically , if they can shift the blame to you they will.
And that is what I've experienced after 7 years here. Never teach in a high school again.
Nasty places.
I'm down-voting you for posting anonymously and then talking to yourself. Look at this: 2 posts, but you have only 1 visible on your user page. This means... you made this one.
But if the kid jumped out the window because of you, then you should leave China now. I mean NAO.
Interesting question.
I am personally aware of 2 suicides during my time in China.
One was a technician who went onto the roof of a factory and slashed his wrists. His wife actually worked in the same factory, in the same room.
The second was a Chinese School teacher, a friend of my MIL. She was nearing retirement and decided to work late in the school one night. She hung herself in the gymnasium.
In both cases there were a few whispers, disapproval, and no questions asked.
They were dismissed as being selfish. How could they do such a thing when they had family?
Oh the shame.
To the OP. Suicide in China is taboo. It might be a trendy thing to do in Japan. But in China it is most certainly not.
Again to the OP. Do you have a story you want to tell? Have you had a bad experience and want someone to listen? Do you have a friend you want justice for?
If the answer is yes, please tell us. Maybe we can help. Foreign teachers are not above the law. If a friend has been wronged, please pm someone here and we will help.
Sorry if I come across as harsh. I started off on the wrong foot, but now I see your post was maybe a cry for help. PM me if that's the case.

The case of the teacher of your MIL it's so sad. I wonder what was in her heart that pushed her to so much unbearable despair. Why would the man kill himself in the way he did it?
For a women, about to retire, with a family to take care of...I don't know! She must have had serious reasons to commit suicide. I am sure of it. Sometimes the despair goes beyond any fear, it's so strong that death looks better to move away the pain that feels so heavy in your heart.
There are people able to cope with all the emotional pains, no matter how this it overwhelms them.
Is the op talking about children or young adolescents?
It makes me wonder about an issue I wouldn't think ever. Are there young children committing suicide? I know people who suffered in the school including in the kindergartens because of the their teachers. I also know they suffered at home. But never heard of children doing such thing. It's just beyond my understanding when by their nature, the dreams they dream of, is freedom in their hearts and minds. Where the world looks ugly, they make it beautiful...through their imagination and they feel better. That is a stimulant for creativity and the endeavor for better.
I may have just missed something. Kids committing suicide? That's new to me. I know about adolescents, but not children doing such thing.
Anyway, I would not stand a situation like this. It will destroy me, seeing anyone jumping off the window....
Holy shit!....that's my spiel.....My modus operandi. My juggernaut.
Any question that's answered with the Govt sponsored and Mao approved response of No Why results in my non negotiable reaction of an invitation to the bozo to jump out the window.
I kid you not.
This year alone I've overseen enough students jump out the window to reinforce my belief that either they're wrong, or someone else is.

Steady on Royce. I have been thinking about this post. And it is just possible that it is a cry for help from a wronged student. They have no other outlet.
There are a lot of bad people out there. Maybe this post is from a student who came across one. Think about it.

Yes Scotsman, I see. And you could be right. But what can we do? Be less caustic I guess.
Good insight, even if you're not right.

I have actually been told that if I kick students out of my class and they would jump off the balcony, get hurt or run away that it would be my fault. I basically laughed and said sure it will.
Quit sadly though there were two suicides at my school both happened in a short time span, but weren’t related to each other. Aside from paying the parents some money, the school basically pretended they never happened.
