Q: Do the Chinese media know something we don't?

Watching Chinese news broadcasts about US China relations and the way they talk about it you would think War was just a formality waiting to happen.
How many of you have been asked lately if you are American?
and those of us that aren't what was the next thing they asked?

It's not just the Chinese media, Trump's guy Steve Bannon said the same thing.

"The US and China will go to war in the next ten years, no doubt about it."

LOL same, "你是美国人?", "不是, 德国人", "哦! 德国的朋友" with a sudden rise in friendliness. Though I'm sure if there is war with the US all non-Asian Foreigners will become targets, doesn't matter if Russian or Nigerian or Colombian.

They aren't going to do anything. Almost everyone in China has a family member in North America...

China and the U.S. are already at war... cyber wars, finance wars... intelligence wars... etc. etc.

When we hear war, we think like bombing cities and killing people. This most likely won't happen, if anything... they will fight in the ocean and keep it there... but even then I am doubtful.

Stiggs:

I hope you're right man, you probably are. If there isn't actually shooting etc though I reckon there is still potential for a lot of ugly shiz to go down.

Imagine Trump trying to strong arm and threaten China into doing what he wants.. and that would probably be how he goes about it...there would be no way China could accept that without losing massive face domestically. They would have to tell him to go fork himself and that would be where things could get out of hand.

I think if that were to happen all the officials etc would be quietly bringing their families home when the demands started.

Robk:

I hope I am right too. Best for everyone here to start putting something away and have an exit plan if it does come down to the worst.

Japan invaded Shanghai rather spontaneously when everyone thought Japan wouldn't dare... hope for the best, but expect the worst.

a year ago i wouldn't have thought much about China getting into it , but now with economic issues becoming a problem and leaders that both will not back down it seems a real possibility

It's politics. The CPC has to keep the reigns tight. As Robk pointed out: Most Chinese rich people have relatives and property in the States. This includes Chinese politicians. The CPC is using its common bully tactics. They are empty threats to attempt to intimidate. Economically well off countries don't like war. But in this case it is a political party that is striving to maintain power. Nothing more. The Americans are not likely to fire first in a shooting war. The CPC would have to make some excuse. Taiwan for example. Another was the mini sub in the S China sea. In that case the Americans had every right to engage to prevent the theft of American property on the high seas. They refrained. The CPC might not be so lucky next time. There won't be a shooting war because the Chinese population would rise up and change their government. Educated Chinese people know that America has never occupied the losing country in the last century. Germany and Japan.
