yes they are very egoistic and think them selves to be smart. they do look sown upon foreigners now as they think we are poor and we are in search of work or job or something like that.

There are different classes of foreigners.

Foreign teachers are looked down upon as necessary evils.

Foreign scholars are well respected.

Foreign managers are well respected.

Foreign tourists are wise to visit China and leave their money behind when they return home.

Care to explain the foreign teacher thing? I think some do it to themselves in their behaviour.

Well, when foreigners do not even know how to use a (squat) toilet, it DOES make us seem rather foolish. Before I get bombarded, I am not trying to be offensive to any foreigner who had to ask how to use one, after all I was one of them! just look at it from their point of view:

"Chen! How do I buy food!? Chen! How do I register?! Chen! What does this say?! Chen! How do I use the toilet!" Tongue

HugAPanda:

HA! That's what the internet is for.. you can look it up... AND watch videos!! No fool am I!

I must agree with the poster above that some foreigners actually act like they are complete fools. This does not address to those living here but more to many tourists or self-called "businessmen" who just seem to be unable to do anything without asking advice from their Chinese intrepreter.
Seen at the fair : Foreigner watching a Chinese demonstrator using a machine making fresh fruit juice. When handed the glass of juice he turned to his interpreter and asked "is it something to drink ?"
