Hi, I've been told schools can cancel your residence permit, changing it to a 30 day tourist visa without you knowing. You only find out when you exit China....I've also heard by others that if your residence permit is cancelled, that someone from the government will contact you, informing you that you have 30 days left....Anyone know if you get notified if your residence permit is revoked, after leaving a school( giving the 30 days notice )?....I gave my old school 30 days notice, 2 months ago and am still in China holidaying. Should i be worried that the residence permit can be canceled without my knowledge?

School should take you to PSB to get new 30-days L stamp, either before the end or before the termination of the Contract.
If you resigned, you should get Release letter and FEC Cancel Certificate in 30-days after your last working day.
With both docs., your new employer can extend your RP for the duration of the new Contract.
If you plan to exit China, you'll need both docs. at your new employment in China.
Only Gov.'s notification/change I'm aware off, it must be done into your passport.

Thanks for your info. I'm hearing exactly what you wrote and also that in some provinces it can be done administratively without having to see ya passport.

Not true. It can't be done without your passport, because PSB will make amends to your RP stamp, or stamp new L (30-days).
In Fujian, PSB instead granting new L, extend RP duration for 30 days.
