Q: Do I have to use a visa agency in HK?

Hi,

I need to go to HK to get my Z visa, and hopefully by then I will have all the documents needed. My question is that do I have to go through a visa agency and pay the 1200ish rmb? Can I just apply in the Chinese embassy and it would be the same 2-4 days?

Do I need to hire a visa agency? Do they make things easier for you? like shorter wait time in line at the embassy and that is?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You can 'shorten' the line at the Embassy by coming early in the morning, and waiting in queue. When Embassy's doors open, waiting line is shortening fairly fast. At 1pm, there's only few people in queue. (Sep. 2012)

You'll fill your Visa application form, while waiting for Embassy's doors open, and if you have all required documents (don't forget Medical exam for some HK$ 2000), you can pay HK$ 600 (I think?) for passport pick up in 48h (2 working days).

I've never used Visa agency.

I agree, the Visa agents just rip you off. do it yourself.

I'd add: 'Medical exam doesn't need to be done in HK. Medical exam from China, not older than 6 M qualify, too. In China, ME is some 5 times cheaper than in HK.

Do some research and check the HK embassy web page.  I used a visa agency as I remember the agency was faster than the embassy was going to be.  Rules and processing times at the embassy change often so check ahead.

I went to the embassy myself. Cheaper and simple. No need for an agent.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
