Companies who post employees here typically provide housing as a part of the compensation. Seems fair to me. If you intend to come here to work, you'll need a work visa. That means you'll need a signed contract with your employer beforehand. And that's where you'll find the answer to your housing question. My understanding is that contracted English Language teachers typically do enjoy either on-campus housing or something decent located nearby. Adequate, but not lavish, housing means a room (maybe two) with a half-decent bed, a table and chair( and the normal furnishings. Yes most of time, they offer housing.

But I would ask them for  pictures of their housing. My present fake school insisted that I come early to their school. Their apartment was horrible, no TV, no internet, no aircondition/heater, no microwave, no electric stove & kitchen wares, no dining chairs, no pillows, bed sheets & blankets, etc. The floorings were & electrical outlets were coming off.  To top it all, the place was very dirty & messy.  I am leaving after a week.

in small 3-4 level cities,they usually offer apartment for foreign teachers.
I know expats in Shanghai who works in Multinational Company are given apartment or villas by their company.
