Q: Do parents care about the safety of their kids or is it just too stupid to know what to do ?

I'm walking back from a private session tonight. There's a 1 lane road that lots of kids walk walk on and many have gotten hit because of traditional Chinese driving.

Two parents are walking with a 3-4 year old the 2 parents are walking along one side and the kid is on the other side of the road. In the distance, headlights, you can the car is approaching fast. Both ladies probably mommy and granny seem unconcerned then the older woman makes a really half assed attempt to call the young kid over then gives up. as the car approaches closer the small child gets spooked by the approaching car and runs over and the car has to come to a screeching stop, fucking lucky. And no sense of urgency from either of the women. What the Fuck?

I see this too damn often

Around here it's the norm. They walk in street instead of footpath.  Honestly I cannot figure out why.  The footpaths aren't that great, but they are usable for sure.

Pretending they own the road, maybe?

This drives me mad here. The total lack of the most simple risk assesment.

The total lack of forward thinking.

I am sure its a space thing. Chinese culture just seems to have no spacial awareness.

It could be the workplace, a bar, the roads, in the house, pavement, shops, museum, bus, metro....there is just a total unawareness that someone else might be occupying the space a person wants to enter.

And most fustrating, no forward thing to accept that someone else might be about to occupy the space just claimed.

Total and complete oblivion to anything happening around them.

I cant figure it out. I am at a total loss.

icnif77:

Chinese don't plan, i.e. don't think forward.

I experienced 'no forward thinking' first hand in 2009 soon after my arrival to China and Tangshan EF.

School's owner took us into the sticks with small 8 persons van. After some 1.5 h drive we had to stop 'cause road was too narrow for the passage of the van.

We had to turn around and come to the target area (small countryside motel) other way around by spending on the road more than 4 h altogether.

Owner was in the motel often using the same road, buTT ... using the van was his first time.

I see this in this city constantly. It baffles me. Folk walking in the road, parents and grandparents wheeling the pram on the road, cars using the pavement. It's also why I spen a lot of my time here muttering 'I fucking despise you people'.

ambivalentmace:

The irony of being in one of the most crowded countries in the world and the people behave like they are the only person in the world when walking or out in public areas has confounded me the entire time I have been here. I simply can't find any cultural, historical, or environmental basis for this problematic behavior.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
